前言

  “現(xiàn)代大學(xué)英語”精讀教本,自2000年年初陸續(xù)出版以來,不知不覺到了該修訂的時(shí)候。再不修訂,作為編者,我們于心難安。基于此,我們計(jì)劃陸續(xù)推出各分冊(cè)的第二版。但是由于第一版一、二冊(cè)的原編者當(dāng)中有相當(dāng)一部分目前其他任務(wù)十分繁重,實(shí)在分身乏術(shù),因此只好委托楊立民、徐克容兩位(原主編陸培敏也參與了第二版的醞釀和討論)具體負(fù)責(zé)一、二冊(cè)的再版工作?! 「鶕?jù)使用者的反饋,這次修訂我們不打算推倒重來。原來的總體結(jié)構(gòu)和編寫原則大致不變,課文也盡量保留,以保證教材的相對(duì)穩(wěn)定,便于經(jīng)驗(yàn)的積累。但是我們希望工作做得再細(xì)一些,更加合理一些,能更好體現(xiàn)我們編寫的各項(xiàng)原則?! 【唧w說來,我們改動(dòng)的地方大致有以下幾個(gè)方面:  1.根據(jù)使用的情況,我們發(fā)現(xiàn)有的課文不夠理想,決定予以替換。還有的課文,因?yàn)闀r(shí)過境遷,也更換成了更近一些的篇章。但替換的課文不超過總量的30%。  2.原版課文的前后次序也不盡合理,難易梯度不夠自然,因此也做了較大的調(diào)整?! ?.考慮到中學(xué)大綱對(duì)詞匯量的要求已經(jīng)達(dá)到5,000左右,原來我們?cè)O(shè)定的詞匯量為2,000左右的起點(diǎn)需要適當(dāng)提高。原來有意在第一年放慢進(jìn)度,集中精力盤活中學(xué)所學(xué),第二版不再做此強(qiáng)調(diào)?! ?.由于以上原因,牽一發(fā)動(dòng)全身,必須重新編寫練習(xí)和其他相關(guān)部分。這方面修改的部分可能超過了一半?! ?.首先練習(xí)部分總量大大壓縮。詞匯和語法練習(xí)相當(dāng)嚴(yán)格地控制在10個(gè)之內(nèi)。我們希望這樣一來,一方面能突出重點(diǎn),另一方面能有效減輕學(xué)生負(fù)擔(dān),使學(xué)生從題海中解放出來,使他們能學(xué)得更加生動(dòng)活潑。

內(nèi)容概要

本書為《現(xiàn)代大學(xué)英語精讀》教材,全套六冊(cè),供大學(xué)本科一至三年級(jí)學(xué)生及水平相當(dāng)?shù)膶W(xué)習(xí)者使用。
本書立足于國內(nèi),努力吸取我國已往英語教學(xué)的經(jīng)驗(yàn),使教材充分反映中國學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)英語的特殊規(guī)律和要求,同時(shí)引進(jìn)國外的新思想、新方法、新技術(shù)。在教學(xué)法問題上,采取兼容并蓄的方針,承認(rèn)真理的多元性和相對(duì)性。謹(jǐn)慎處理英語教學(xué)中的各種關(guān)系,吸取歷史教訓(xùn),克服片面性。盡量兼顧語言和文化,聽、說、讀、寫、譯各個(gè)方面,避免走極端。

  I didn't think twice. "I was going to open a new account," I said, "but after seeing what's going on here, I think I've changed my mind."  "Excuse me?" he said.  "Look," I said. "If I understand what's going on here correctly, what you're saying is that this boy is old enough to deposit his money in your bank but he's not old enough to withdraw it. And since there doesn't seem to be any question as to whether it's his money or his account, the bank's so-called policy is clearly ridiculous."
