作者簡(jiǎn)介

艾迪維娜·彭達(dá)維斯，西弗吉尼亞馬歇爾大學(xué)教授，全美知名的天才兒童教育專家，除了在學(xué)術(shù)期刊上發(fā)表的文章之外，她還著有四本相關(guān)專著，其中包括《天才兒童的稟賦》、《奇想錄：美國(guó)人才發(fā)展和美國(guó)學(xué)校的反智傾向》等。

　　Except for the many fires started by the bombs， London was darkfrom afternoon until morning during the blitz. A "blackout" was inplace all through the city whenever an attack was expected. This helpedkeep the bombers from knowing the exact location of particularbuildings. To children and adults alike the awful sounds of the ap-proaching airplane motors， the whistles made by the bombs， and themassive explosions were a nightmare made real. Many small childrenwere terrified. The planes and their bombs were so powerful that eventheir parents couldnt protect them. Harold， who was past the age when he thought his parents hadgodlike powers， was scared. But he wasnt terrified. Besides， like mostof the older boys， he felt he had to put up a brave front2.This afternoon was only one of many afternoons hed had to sit inthe shelter for an hour or more. He had gotten soused to it， that by now， he didnt just pretend to bebrave. He actually got bored， having to stay in theshelter so long. Now， stretching his cramped limbs，he glanced at his father， Jack， a city man whod neverfired a gun. He looked at his mother， Frances， cheer-ful and loving.
