章節(jié)摘錄
This epoch-making document falls into two parts. The first part tells of the rights that belongto everybody. It solemnly declared: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men arecreated equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that amongthese are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness..." The second part recounts the wrongs theBritish did against his colonies. The Declaration oflndependence marked the beginning of a new nation——the United States ofAmerica. It was a masterpiece of bourgeois political philosophy. The influence of the Declarationspread far beyond America boundaries. 3. Social Class Social class is a group of people differentiated loosely from other groups in terms of wealth, position, and power. From the Marxist point of view, classes are determined primarily accordingto "the relations of production" of a given society, that is, according to an examination of whoowns the means of production and who operates the means of production. The theory of class currently prevailing in the West is largely based on what Max Weber(1864 ~ 1930), a German sociologist, proposed. His theory holds that men in every society areevaluated by their fellow men on a number of structural bases. That is, they are evaluated in termsof their profession, their social status, their membership in a family or ethnic body, and theirknowledge or education.
