Ten years ago,while at the University of Western Australia,anthropologist Nina Jablonski was asked to give a lecture on human skin.As an expert on primate evolution,she decided to discuss the evolution of skin color,but when she went through the literature on the subject she was dismayed.Some theories advanced before the 1970s tended to be racist,and others were less than convincing.White skin,for example,was reported to be more resistant to cold weather,although groups like the lnuit(Eskimos)are both dark and particaularly resistant to cold.

作者簡介

胡敏，湖南華容人，人稱『胡雅思』，新東方教育集團總裁，北京新東方學校第二任校長，著名英語教學與測試專家，留英學者。十九歲湖南湘潭大學英語系本科畢業(yè)，一九八八年獲上海師范大學英語系英語語言學碩士學位，二十八歲破格晉升副教授，原國際關系學院英文系副主任、英語專業(yè)碩士生導師。從事高校英語教育事業(yè)近二十年，多次獲優(yōu)秀教師稱號、青年教師講課比賽優(yōu)勝獎，榮獲北京市第五屆哲學社會科學優(yōu)秀成果二等獎，在全國各種英語語言文學專業(yè)學刊上發(fā)表學術論文數十篇，現已出版英語菱數十部。多次應邀赴英聯邦國家、日本著名大學和語言學校進行學術交流。一九九五年到新東方任兼職托福教師，在新東方開創(chuàng)國內考試培訓部和雅思考試培訓部，包括四級、六級、考研、英語、雅思四種培訓項目，在英語培訓領域提出自己獨特的教學理念—改進學習方法、提高應試技巧、加強英語實力、升華事業(yè)人生，這一理念在新東方的課堂上得以貫徹并為廣大學員所認可。
