英語閱讀能力的培養(yǎng)是大學(xué)英語教學(xué)的重要任務(wù)。對(duì)此,((大學(xué)英語課程教學(xué)要求(試行)》做出了定性定量的要求。閱讀不僅是獲取信息的主要手段,也是學(xué)習(xí)和掌握語言的有效途徑。對(duì)于廣大非英語專業(yè)大學(xué)生而言,只有通過大量閱讀,才能獲得充足的語言輸入,進(jìn)而打下扎實(shí)的英語基礎(chǔ),形成較強(qiáng)的英語語感,提高英語綜合應(yīng)用能力。 培養(yǎng)英語閱讀能力一方面要依賴足夠的閱讀實(shí)踐,在閱讀中學(xué)會(huì)閱讀;另一方面,能動(dòng)地運(yùn)用元認(rèn)知策略,理性地改進(jìn)閱讀方法,積極地提高英語閱讀技能,無疑能對(duì)培養(yǎng)較強(qiáng)的閱讀能力起到事半功倍的作用。 英語閱讀能力包含多種要素,而快速處理閱讀材料所輸入信息的能力是其中極其重要的微技能,這一點(diǎn)早已為閱讀研究者所認(rèn)識(shí)。Grabe(1991)曾經(jīng)指出:“…a description of reading has to account for the notions that fluent reading is rapid,purposeful,interactive,comprehending,flexible,and gradually developing.”。Taylor(1975)也強(qiáng)調(diào)“reading has to be fast to be successful”。一定的閱讀速度是獲取主要信息所必需的,是保持閱讀興趣、專注于閱讀內(nèi)容所要求的。尤其是在當(dāng)今這個(gè)“信息爆炸”、新知識(shí)以幾何級(jí)增長的時(shí)代,快速閱讀技能的重要性愈加突出。這樣,快速閱讀技能的培養(yǎng)也就必然成為大學(xué)英語教學(xué)的要?jiǎng)?wù)。而大學(xué)英語教學(xué)中要致力于快速閱讀教學(xué),就需要有適當(dāng)?shù)慕滩淖髦危m用的教材是保證教學(xué)活動(dòng)順利開展的必要條件。《大學(xué)體驗(yàn)英語快速閱讀教程》的編寫正是為了滿足目前國內(nèi)大學(xué)英語教學(xué)的這一實(shí)際需要。 本教程的編寫以《大學(xué)英語課程教學(xué)要求(試行)》為依據(jù)。 本教程共四冊,每冊含18個(gè)單元,可供大學(xué)英語教學(xué)1~4學(xué)期使用(按每學(xué)期18周,每周一個(gè)單元計(jì))。各冊中每單元分Text A和Text B(一篇用于課堂,另一篇供課后練習(xí))。每冊配有“Introduction to Important Reading Strategies and Skills”。本教程的編寫采取“主題與技能”相結(jié)合的模式,即單元設(shè)置圍繞內(nèi)容主題,練習(xí)設(shè)計(jì)針對(duì)閱讀技能與文章內(nèi)容。第一、二冊練習(xí)包括多項(xiàng)選擇與正誤判斷兩種題型,第三、四冊練習(xí)包括多項(xiàng)選擇與簡短問答兩種題型。書后附有全書練習(xí)的參考答案。

7. Understanding main ideas You will practice recognizing the main ideas contained within a text. In the process of skimming you will alreadyhave identified some of these main ideas. During a second and third reading you can recognize and understand themmore fully. Each paragraph will usually contain one main idea, sometimes referred to as the paragraph topic. The reading materials provide several exercises which help you identify and understand the main ideas in a text.Knowing the key points in a reading text is vital in assessing its importance and relevance for your needs. Understandingthe main ideas will also lead you to an understanding of a writers organization. Example 3: One hundred years ago, school teachers were expected to provide a variety of services inaddition to their teaching duties and to behave themselves in an exemplary (serving as an example) manner. They cared for the oil lamps, tended the fire, and supplied their students with sharp pencils. After a long day in the classroom, they were expected to spend some time every evening reading the Bible. Women teachers could not marry, and barber shops were off limits to men teachers. Of course, alcohol and tobacco were forbidden. Which statement best expresses the main idea? A. Teachers performed domestic tasks. B. The teaching profession demanded total dedication. C. Teachers needed the guidance of religion. D. Teachers set good examples by not using tobacco and alcohol. 8. Recognizing important facts and details To understand the main idea thoroughly, however, you must recognize the important facts or details which helpdevelop or support it. These facts and details give you a deeper understanding of the main idea. They may prove a point,show a relationship between ideas, or serve as examples to help you understand the main idea more fully. Here aresome ways to help you recognize important facts or details: 1 ) Read for the main idea. If you have identified the main idea, you can more easily recognize the important facts that support it. 2) Keep it in mind that not all facts or details are equally important. Look only for the facts that related to the main idea. 3) To check on your understanding of the material you have read, review the facts or details which you have identified as the main idea. If adding up the facts or details does not lead logically to the main idea, you have failed either to identify the main idea or to recognize the important supporting details.
