作者簡介

　　王邁邁，中國書刊發(fā)行協(xié)會非國有書業(yè)工作委員會常務(wù)理事，湖北省出版物發(fā)行協(xié)會副會長，武漢現(xiàn)代外國語言文學(xué)研究所所長，長期從事大學(xué)英語和中學(xué)英語教學(xué)與研究，編著出版了大量深受讀者喜愛的暢銷圖書，調(diào)查顯示，全國許多大學(xué)、中學(xué)的學(xué)生，擁有王邁邁品牌圖書，幾乎人手一冊，其深受歡迎的程度可見一斑。

　　同期話題：Poems　　Poems date back to before recorded history some 3,000 yearsago. They differ from prose in that their words are in lines and stan-zas while ordinary speech and writing is in sentences and para-graphs. Poets have used poetry to record great national events or,more commonly, to express deep emotion. Early poetry was sung inchants and often praised gods, gave advice or was used to mourn.Examples of these works, such as ancient Greek and Roman myths,were passed on by word of mouth and eventually written down; west-ern poetry is derived from this early form of poetry.　　Among todays most popular poets is William Shakespeare, a16th century English poet and playwright whose works still hold rele-vance for 21st century audiences. In Shakespeares day, largecrowds would gather to watch his plays and listen to his poetry at atheatre, like the Globe Theatre in London.　　Here is an example:　　Shall I compare thee to a summers day？　　Thou are more lovely and more temperate;　　In Shakespeares day the word "thee" and "thou" was used in-stead of "you". The word "temperate" is more elaborate than themodern version of "calm", but the overall meaning is clear and colorful.
