前言

　　隨著經(jīng)濟(jì)的發(fā)展，我國(guó)對(duì)外交往活動(dòng)日益增多，越來(lái)越多的國(guó)內(nèi)機(jī)構(gòu)和企業(yè)與國(guó)外相關(guān)行業(yè)開(kāi)展了交流與合作，在這樣一個(gè)全球化的背景下，商務(wù)英語(yǔ)人才不僅要懂得基本的專業(yè)知識(shí)，更要深入了解國(guó)外的文化，《英美概況》正是基于上述前提應(yīng)運(yùn)而生?！　”窘滩母鶕?jù)《高職高專教育英語(yǔ)課程教學(xué)基本要求》編寫(xiě)，在編寫(xiě)過(guò)程中力圖符合英語(yǔ)教師及學(xué)生的實(shí)際需要和實(shí)際水平，做到語(yǔ)言通俗易懂、內(nèi)容新穎、趣味性強(qiáng)。本教材分為兩大部分：英國(guó)部分和美國(guó)部分。每部分各分為八章，介紹了英、美兩國(guó)的歷史、政治、經(jīng)濟(jì)、教育、宗教及文學(xué)藝術(shù)等方面的基本知識(shí)，有助于學(xué)習(xí)者了解英美的價(jià)值觀念及生活方式，加深對(duì)語(yǔ)言和文化的理解，增強(qiáng)對(duì)文化差異的敏感性，達(dá)到擴(kuò)大知識(shí)面、鞏固和提高英語(yǔ)水平的目的?！　∮⒄Z(yǔ)語(yǔ)言規(guī)范是英語(yǔ)教材的基礎(chǔ)，為保證學(xué)生學(xué)到原汁原味的英語(yǔ)，我們的資料全部選自英美書(shū)籍、報(bào)刊、雜志和網(wǎng)站。大學(xué)不僅要教書(shū)，而且要育人，我們?cè)诿空轮写┎辶耍好嗣浴说牧α渴菬o(wú)窮的；歡樂(lè)時(shí)刻——幽默是金；保持樂(lè)觀——永遠(yuǎn)保持積極向上的人生觀。使我們的大學(xué)生在具備“高智商”的同時(shí)也具備“高情商”。其中，“保持樂(lè)觀”由劉白玉編寫(xiě)?！　⒓颖緯?shū)編寫(xiě)的其他教師及其分工如下（按照每部分中八章的內(nèi)容分）：概要（劉雪），歷史（張軍燕），政治（英國(guó)部分王曉琳、王春玲，美國(guó)部分王莉），經(jīng)濟(jì)（韓小寧、頓小慧），軍事（韓小寧、頓小慧），文化與教育（劉夏青），宗教（包芳），文學(xué)藝術(shù)（包芳）。附錄部分由扈珺編寫(xiě)?！　”窘滩募瓤晒└呗毟邔Ｓ⒄Z(yǔ)專業(yè)的學(xué)生使用，也可作為全校選修課供非英語(yǔ)專業(yè)的學(xué)生使用，同時(shí)也可供英語(yǔ)本科學(xué)生及其他英語(yǔ)愛(ài)好者參考使用?！　”窘滩牧砼銹PT課件和5套試題，并提供全部練習(xí)答案，使用者可查看書(shū)后的“贈(zèng)送課件說(shuō)明”，以便獲取?！　”窘滩脑诰帉?xiě)過(guò)程中得到了對(duì)外經(jīng)濟(jì)貿(mào)易大學(xué)出版社及其編輯李麗老師的大力支持，在此表示深深的謝意。同時(shí)也特別感謝劉夏青、韓小寧兩位老師，她們不辭辛勞，參與了教材的定稿校正?！　∮捎跁r(shí)間倉(cāng)促，再加上編者水平有限，書(shū)中難免有缺點(diǎn)和錯(cuò)漏之處，懇請(qǐng)專家和讀者批評(píng)指正。

　　The House of Hanover （ the Hanoverians） is a Germanic royal dynasty. It succeeded the House of Stuart as monarchs of Great Britain and Ireland in 1714 and held that office until the death of Victoria in 1901. There were a lot of better qualified people available to be king of England， but unfortunately most of them were Catholic. George I was a German who did not speak a word of English， but was Protestant. So started the rule of the House of Hanover， under whom Britain achieved wealth and peace over the next century.　　During Georges reign the powers of the monarchy diminished and Britain began a transition to the modern system of Cabinet government led by a Prime Minister， which plays an important part in connecting the King and Parliament together. Towards the end of his reign， actual power was held by Sir Robert Walpole， Great Britains first Prime Minister until 1742. He avoided the expense of war， and Britain prospered. George died on a trip to his native Hanover， where he was buried. The coming of George III to the throne in 1760 after the death of George II brought the fast British-born king for 50 years. They were exciting times， except the loss of the American Colonies. Britain won new territories in Canada and India， but lost the oldest settlement of all， with the declaration of independence by the American colonies in 1776 and the final surrender at Yorktown in 1781.
