隨著中國加入世貿(mào)組織,中國經(jīng)濟快速發(fā)展,經(jīng)濟全球化等,這些大背景給學生帶來了更廣闊的就業(yè)平臺。但同時,對學生的英語水平也有了更高的要求。熟練的專業(yè)技術加上精良的專業(yè)英語知識無疑就是高技能、緊缺人才所必備的。因此,學好專業(yè)英語顯得尤為重要。    本書是按照《高職高專院校機械工程類專業(yè)英語教學大綱》所編寫的。編者在多年教學實踐經(jīng)驗的基礎上,力求按照行業(yè)培養(yǎng)的寬口徑,使專業(yè)英語教材具有良好的通用性。并根據(jù)高職高專教育的應用性特征,使專業(yè)英語具有較強的實用性和針對性。    全書由材料科學、材料成形、機械制造、汽車、模具、機器人、CAD/CAM等七部分組成,共分成七個單元。每個單元均由課文、詞匯、注釋、相關練習和參考譯文等五個部分組成。內(nèi)容以材料工程、機械設計、機械制造、機電一體化、汽車制造與維修、模具設計與制造、數(shù)控技術、計算機輔助設計與制造等專業(yè)技術及其最新發(fā)展訊息為主,對所選的閱讀材料中出現(xiàn)的語言重點和難點做了詳細的注釋。選材精煉,課文后配有生詞短語表、注釋和相應的練習,促進學生“學必思考,學練結(jié)合”。書后附有參考譯文和練習答案,便于學生理解和核查自己學習與掌握的內(nèi)容。    本書可作為高職高專機械設計與制造類、機電控制等專業(yè)的教材,也可供工商管理專業(yè)、經(jīng)濟類專業(yè)和英語專業(yè)學生、技術人員學習參考。建議教師根據(jù)各專業(yè)的學生情況,可不受教材編排順序的限制,進行適當篩選。對老師沒有選用的單元,學生可根據(jù)自己的興趣和需要自學其中的部分內(nèi)容,以拓寬專業(yè)英語的知識面。

  2. Fundamentals of materials science  4 In materials science, rather than haphazardly looking for and discovering materials and exploiting their properties, the aim is instead to understand materials so that new materials with the desired properties can be created. 5 Thebasis of materials science involves relating the desired properties and relative performance of a material in a certain application to the structure of the atoms and phases in that material through characterization. The major determinants of the structure of a material and thus of its properties are its constituent chemical elements and the way in which it has been processed into its final form. These characteristics, taken together and related through the laws of thermodynamics, govern a material s microstructure, and thus its properties.  6 The manufacture of a perfect crystal of a material is currently physically impossible. Instead materials scientists manipulate the defects in crystalline materials such as precipitates, grain boundaries (Hall-Petch relationship), interstitial atoms, vacancies or substitutional atoms, to create materials with the desired properties.  7 Not all materials have a regular crystal structure. Glasses, some ceramics, and many natural materials are amorphous, not possessing any long-range order in their atomic arrangements. Polymers display varying degrees of crystallinity, and many are completely non-crystalline. Polymers are studied in the fields of polymer chemistry, polymer physics, and polymer science.
