內(nèi)容概要

對(duì)于中國(guó)廣大英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)者來說，學(xué)好英語(yǔ)的一條重要途徑便是進(jìn)行大量的閱讀。而閱讀材料的好壞則直接影響到學(xué)習(xí)者的學(xué)習(xí)效果。為此，上海外語(yǔ)教育出版社從美國(guó)最大的教育出版集團(tuán)之一麥格勞-希爾出版公司引進(jìn)出版了這套英語(yǔ)新概念閱讀系列。    本書系英語(yǔ)新概念閱讀系列中的第五本，供廣大學(xué)生和英語(yǔ)自學(xué)者提高英語(yǔ)閱讀能力、同時(shí)學(xué)民和了解多方面學(xué)科知識(shí)使用。    本書中所有閱讀文章都圍繞四個(gè)基本概念展開：第一，有些事物并非如其看起來的那樣；第二，人們對(duì)事物的看法因時(shí)間不同而產(chǎn)生變化；第三，不同群體會(huì)以不同方式看待同一想法或主意；第四，相似的事物在世界各地以不同的速度發(fā)生著變化。書中的閱讀文章均采用圍繞反映這些概念的大量不同學(xué)科的材料編寫，涉及歷史、藝術(shù)、生物學(xué)、經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)、地球科學(xué)、空間學(xué)、政治學(xué)、工程學(xué)、人類學(xué)以及地理等學(xué)科。這樣編寫的目的是保證學(xué)習(xí)者對(duì)不同學(xué)科的興趣都胡得到滿足。同時(shí)書中還收錄了若干民間文學(xué)故事或傳說。每篇閱讀文章中的較難詞匯及其解釋以及部分專有名詞按文章順序列在本書第6-12頁(yè)。每篇閱讀文章后都配有精心設(shè)計(jì)的閱讀理解練習(xí)，供讀者檢查閱讀效果用。
