　　A sentence is a group of words that states a complete thought. Sentences can state thoughts in many ways.Read the following sentences about fog. Which sentence do you think is more interesting？ Fog doesn't make any noise.The fog comes on little cat feet. You probably prefer the sentence on the right, which was written by the poet Carl Sandburg. It's a moreinteresting sentence because it states the idea in a clear, fresh way. It appeals to your imagination. It has a strongerimpact. Below are other examples of sentences that express a single complete thought in a clear and direct way and thelast three examples express ideas not only in clear and direct but also in original ways: 1） It would be night soon, and I:was afraid. 2） The waves pounded the rocky shore. 3） Do you know how to eat with chopsticks？ 4） Americans should use less of the world's fuel. 5） Adobe is sun-dried clay used for building. 6） You can never plan the future by the past. 7） The human heart has hidden treasures. 8） My soul has grown deep like the rivers. Every sentence makes a point. No matter what point you are making in a sentence, you can make the sentenceeffective. Keep to one idea. Be clear and direct. Use your senses and imagination to express an idea in an originalway.　　……
