  My First Job  Pre-reading Questions  This pre-reading activity helps to motivate the students to read actively. It does, not matter if thestudents tick any statements which are irrelevant to the text. What is expected of the students isthat they should read with interest and alertness. The statements which are relevant to the textare: 1, 3.  The Main Idea  This section trains the students to skim through the text for the main idea(s) at the first reading.Set a time limit for this process. For this text, which is approximately 590 words in length,about three minutes for the first reading should be enough. But if the students are not used toskimming, perhaps they could be given four or five minutes to begin with. That should be ampletime to skim through such a short text.The following are guidelines for skimming.
