　　Space tourism， once thought to be just a rich mans dream， is taking another step towardsbecoming reality. The British billionaire George Lewis recently announced plans to investin a number of different technologies， all of which aim to achieve commercial flights intoouter space. While a handful of rich individuals have paid millions of dollars to the Russiangovernment for the privilege of spending time in space， this venture by Lewis is much moreambitious. He aims to fly airplane-like crafts out of the earths atmosphere and into outerspace.　　Critics originally scoffed at Lewis， who has made no secret of his desire to commercializespace. However， recent technological developments have caused some experts to changecourse and admit that commercial space flight might be just a decade or so away frombecoming reality. Space has long been the sole domain of governments， but now thatregulations have been relaxed， private industries are looking into the feasibility of space flights.While the flights would be prohibitively expensive to all but the richest individuals at theirinception， the price would naturally come down to more reasonable levels as costs decrease.Lewis intends to invest 50 million pounds a year in this new venture. Although he doesntexpect much of an immediate return on his investment， he says， "Im in this for the long haul.Man has long been fascinated by space， and I intend to let people travel there for themselves."Lewis refuses to say when he expects to make his first commercial flight into space， but he hasprivately confided to his friends that he hopes it can be done within three to four years.
