“建筑研究以其對建筑用途，含義和魅力的欣賞展示了人們享用房屋的樂趣?！贝嗽捯?938年第10版《弗萊乇建筑史》，恰如其分地總結(jié)了《弗萊徹建筑史》一書對于不同時代的學(xué)生和建筑師們意味著什么——一本通俗易用的參考書，內(nèi)含對世界所有主要建筑的描述的說明，以及很多圖文并茂的實例。     主編丹·克魯克香克（Den Cruickshank）和3名顧問、14名撰稿人共同編撰了本書的第20版，也是世紀(jì)版，對其中許多章節(jié)進(jìn)行了改動和擴(kuò)展，并增輯三分之一的篇幅，有關(guān)中東（包括以色列），東南亞、印度次大陸、東歐、拉美地區(qū)以及俄羅斯、中國（包括香港特別行政區(qū)）、日本、朝鮮等國的20世紀(jì)建筑的一些新章節(jié)。本書的內(nèi)容廣泛擴(kuò)展，包括許多非歐洲國愛的建筑。20世紀(jì)以前的內(nèi)容，目前有六章是關(guān)于伊斯蘭建筑的。    《弗萊徹建筑史》第一次把20世紀(jì)的建筑看作一個整體，從歷史角度對其做出評價。書中還有許多關(guān)于建筑風(fēng)格、工程結(jié)構(gòu)以及新的平面圖和剖面圖。參考書自己被擴(kuò)展為一個獨立部分，匯集了世界建筑各個時期的重要信息。    這本獨一無二的建筑書將建筑置于相應(yīng)的社會、文化和歷史背景之中，描述了建筑發(fā)展的主要模式，從史前時期到國際時尚。用弗萊徹的話來說，這本書表明“建筑……提供了人們生活習(xí)慣、思想和靈感來源的答案。如果沒有這種藝術(shù)史，那么任何歷史時期都缺少人類影響應(yīng)留下的痕跡?！?/pre>


作者簡介
本書系1944年初版《西洋建筑史》的第一次再版?！段餮蠼ㄖ贰酚缮蚶碓聪壬鶕?jù)《比較建筑史》第10版西方建筑部分編譯而成，是《比較建筑史》迄今為止的惟一中譯本?！侗容^建筑史》自第18版起更名為《弗萊徹建筑史》，目前已印行至第20版。
