本書以現(xiàn)代語(yǔ)言學(xué)習(xí)理論為依據(jù),以結(jié)合范文講解進(jìn)行寫作訓(xùn)練為主要方法,按照循序漸進(jìn)的原則編排,重點(diǎn)講授說(shuō)明文、議論文和研究論文的基本寫作技巧。全書由四部分組成,第一部分為說(shuō)明文(Exposition)。該部分以段落寫作為起點(diǎn),從學(xué)習(xí)段落的基本結(jié)構(gòu)開始,而后逐一展開介紹說(shuō)明文段落的主要技巧,同時(shí)指導(dǎo)學(xué)生反復(fù)練習(xí)段落的寫作,最后在段落寫作的基礎(chǔ)上進(jìn)行各種技巧的短文寫作訓(xùn)練。第二部分為議論文(Argumentation)。該部分首先介紹如何構(gòu)思、準(zhǔn)備議論文的寫作,而后講授如何運(yùn)用描寫、敘述和說(shuō)明的技巧展開論證,然后講解論說(shuō)的技巧,并指導(dǎo)學(xué)生逐一運(yùn)用這些技巧練習(xí)寫作議論文,最后進(jìn)行各種目的的議論文的寫作訓(xùn)練。第三部分為英語(yǔ)專業(yè)四、八級(jí)作文和非英語(yǔ)專業(yè)四、六級(jí)作文應(yīng)試指南(Practice Writing),主要包括英語(yǔ)專業(yè)四級(jí)作文與便條、英語(yǔ)專業(yè)八級(jí)作文和非英語(yǔ)專業(yè)四、六級(jí)作文的應(yīng)試技巧。第四部分為研究論文寫作(The Research Paper)。該部分包括論文的準(zhǔn)備階段、論文的寫作和論文寫作中引用文獻(xiàn)資料的兩種常用體例(MIA和APA)的詳盡介紹。
