高等學(xué)校英語應(yīng)用能力考試（Practical English Test for Colleges，簡稱PRETCO）是經(jīng)教育部批準(zhǔn)，根據(jù)教育部高等教育司《高職高專教育英語課程教學(xué)基本要求》（以下簡稱《基本要求》）而設(shè)置的全國統(tǒng)一的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)化考試，旨在檢測高等職業(yè)教育、普通高等專科教育和成人高等教育的學(xué)生是否達(dá)到了教學(xué)要求所規(guī)定的實際運(yùn)用英語的能力。該考試分A級和B級兩種。本書是根據(jù)《基本要求》和《高等學(xué)校英語應(yīng)用能力考試大綱》（以下簡稱《考試大綱》）編寫的A級模擬試題。    本書共有兩部分。第一部分為十套模擬試題，配有光盤。第二部分提供聽力錄音文字、試題答案、注釋和作文參考范文。　  本書的特點如下。①針對性強(qiáng)。模擬試題緊扣考試大綱，并均根據(jù)實際測試題所要求的內(nèi)容、形式、難度和題量設(shè)計。②實用性強(qiáng)。測試題中的應(yīng)用性閱讀材料包括廣告、序言、目錄、說明書、合同、商務(wù)信件等。③覆蓋面廣。本書覆蓋了《考試大綱》所列的所有考試題型：聽力部分有多項選擇和簡答；語法與結(jié)構(gòu)部分有多項選擇和填空；閱讀理解部分有多項選擇、填空、匹配和簡答；翻譯部分有單句翻譯和段落翻譯；寫作部分有書寫、套寫和翻譯等。  　本書作者長期從事高職高專英語教學(xué)，且對英語標(biāo)準(zhǔn)化考試頗有研究。
