前言

  《致用英語(yǔ)綜合教程》(共四冊(cè))是一套新生代英語(yǔ)專(zhuān)業(yè)教材,殫力于語(yǔ)言的學(xué)能培養(yǎng),供攻讀英語(yǔ)專(zhuān)業(yè)的一、二年級(jí)大學(xué)本科生以及具有相應(yīng)水平的英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)者使用,特別薦引于應(yīng)用型英語(yǔ)專(zhuān)業(yè)的教學(xué)?! ≡谖覈?guó)的英語(yǔ)教學(xué)改革中,教材的創(chuàng)新本來(lái)就顯得有些滯后。近幾年,英語(yǔ)專(zhuān)業(yè)的教學(xué)創(chuàng)新與教材編寫(xiě)無(wú)論在理論與實(shí)踐的探討上、在教學(xué)界的關(guān)注度上、在學(xué)術(shù)的活躍度上,以及在教材的更新頻度上,又都不夠活躍?,F(xiàn)有的英語(yǔ)專(zhuān)業(yè)教材存在的主要問(wèn)題是:有些失之于“經(jīng)院式”,偏重于文學(xué)作品或20世紀(jì)以前經(jīng)典作家的作品,與現(xiàn)實(shí)生活中真實(shí)的、鮮活的語(yǔ)境以及學(xué)生未來(lái)職場(chǎng)的實(shí)際需求相去甚遠(yuǎn),致使學(xué)生的“書(shū)本知識(shí)”同“實(shí)際技能”不相匹配;有些則失之于凸顯教師的“學(xué)術(shù)權(quán)威性”,而忽視了學(xué)生的感受,把他們置于完全被動(dòng)接受的地位,表現(xiàn)為信息量過(guò)大、知識(shí)點(diǎn)過(guò)繁、練習(xí)量過(guò)多,形成了“滿書(shū)灌”的問(wèn)題,使學(xué)生眼花繚亂,疲于應(yīng)付。單元內(nèi)容大大超過(guò)規(guī)定學(xué)時(shí)的負(fù)荷,在教學(xué)實(shí)踐中很容易引發(fā)“滿堂灌”的弊端。針對(duì)這些問(wèn)題,我們對(duì)英語(yǔ)專(zhuān)業(yè)的教學(xué)現(xiàn)狀進(jìn)行了大量調(diào)研,對(duì)國(guó)內(nèi)外同類(lèi)教材進(jìn)行了對(duì)比、分析、思辨,認(rèn)為對(duì)英語(yǔ)專(zhuān)業(yè)教材進(jìn)行積極的探索與改革勢(shì)在必行,于是向社會(huì)奉獻(xiàn)出此套教科書(shū)?! ∫弧⒕帉?xiě)理念  一套較好的教材應(yīng)該滿足以下條件:選材新而且涵蓋面廣;知識(shí)點(diǎn)的介紹重點(diǎn)突出、模塊鏈接、貼近實(shí)用;項(xiàng)目設(shè)計(jì)以“任務(wù)型”為主,陳述簡(jiǎn)約,突出“實(shí)戰(zhàn)”;體例力求多樣化、趣味性、助推式,這也是本套教材所力求實(shí)現(xiàn)的特色。在教材編寫(xiě)的過(guò)程中,我們始終把體現(xiàn)學(xué)能培養(yǎng)與潛質(zhì)開(kāi)發(fā)作為編書(shū)的核心理念,多方面地幫助學(xué)生掌握學(xué)習(xí)策略、求知方法論、思辨能力、實(shí)踐動(dòng)口動(dòng)手能力、語(yǔ)言應(yīng)用的創(chuàng)新能力。本教材之所以冠以“致用”二字,志在引導(dǎo)學(xué)生“學(xué)以習(xí)得”和“學(xué)以致用”也。英國(guó)著名詩(shī)人托馬斯·莫爾(nlomas Moore)曾說(shuō):“One of the greatest Droblems of our time is that many are schooled but few are edLlcated… Education is,not the Diling on of learning,information,data,facts,skills,or abilities——that’s training or instruction-but is rather。making visible what is hidden as a seed.”莫爾的話從一個(gè)側(cè)面道出了對(duì)教育的本質(zhì)要求。的確,教育的功能不能局限于灌輸具體的知識(shí),核心的問(wèn)題是要培育“種子”并造就它釋放出自己的全部潛能。教材的編著也應(yīng)該具備這樣深邃的認(rèn)知和多維的視角。  在微觀層面,我們力圖在教材中既融入語(yǔ)言學(xué)的語(yǔ)用學(xué)、英漢語(yǔ)對(duì)比、認(rèn)知語(yǔ)言學(xué)、二語(yǔ)習(xí)得、語(yǔ)塊理論里與教學(xué)相關(guān)的智慧,又吸收交際法、任務(wù)型教學(xué)、自主學(xué)習(xí)等理論的精華,讓英語(yǔ)教學(xué)更有效果。

  Last weekend my wife and I invited our extended family to ourhome to celebrate our daughter's birthday. During the celebration myyoung nephew spent the entire time on my computer playing asimulated war game. My brother-in-law and I were chatting near byand it struck us that in generations past, his son, my nephew, wouldhave been outside playing with his friends. But now the little fellowgoes on line to play his games against his friends in cyberspace.  It seems to me that the Internet is a powerful tool that presents anopportunity for the advancement of the acquisition and application ofknowledge. However, based on my personal experience I canunderstand how, as they surf the web some folks might be confrontedwith cognitive overload19.
