隨著大學(xué)英語教學(xué)改革的進一步深入，教育部高等教育司頒發(fā)的《大學(xué)英語課程教學(xué)要求》對閱讀能力提出更新的要求，期望大學(xué)生的英語能力能夠滿足新時期國家和社會對人才培養(yǎng)的需要，繼而適應(yīng)國際競爭的需要?！　　　　洞髮W(xué)英語課程教學(xué)要求》對英語閱讀能力要求有明確的描述。一般要求為在快速閱讀篇幅較長、難度略低的材料時，閱讀速度達到每分鐘100詞。能就閱讀材料進行略讀和尋讀，能讀懂工作、生活中常見的應(yīng)用文體的材料，能在閱讀中使用有效的閱讀方法。掌握較高要求的閱讀理解能力，在快速閱讀篇幅較長、難度適中的材料時，閱讀速度達到每分鐘120詞。能閱讀所學(xué)專業(yè)的綜述性文獻，并能正確理解中心大意，抓住主要事實和有關(guān)細節(jié)。 　　《大學(xué)英語快速閱讀》就是為了滿足在校大學(xué)生提高快速閱讀能力的要求，并針對學(xué)生特點而編寫的訓(xùn)練教材。全部四冊教材按主題分項為生活、旅游、教育、文化等內(nèi)容，學(xué)生可根據(jù)個人情況選擇主題；文章長度由短至長，適合學(xué)生逐級進階的學(xué)習(xí)過程。文章選材涉及人文社會、政治經(jīng)濟、教育科技、體育娛樂，具有真實性、新穎性、知識性和趣味性，為英語學(xué)習(xí)者提供各種英語表達的范例。讀者可以欣賞地道的英語文章，擴大詞匯量和知識面，在進一步提高閱讀能力的同時，也可提高寫作能力。每篇文章后面的試題形式多樣，題量也有過渡，題目的設(shè)計包含大學(xué)英語四級考試新題型的快速閱讀的判斷題、多項選擇題和填空題等類型。
