4 One day, I realized that my homework was always getting done. I had answers to give and comments to make in class. I found my hand shooting up in the air as fast as it could, in hopes that I might be called upon for an answer. By the end of the year I had been in competition with myself to receive achievement awards. My confidence began to soar. In past years I had phone calls home reminding my Morn that I was a social butterfly. Iwas constantly getting into trouble and really had no reason to change. That year I had calls home letting my Morn know how wonderful I was doing. What a change! The year I spent in Dr. Forans Grade 6 classroom was the year that I started my future as both a learner and a teacher. 5 Over 10 years later I came across a book that once meant so much to me. It was the language arts notebook that I had saved from Grade 6. It had been my guide to everything I ever needed to know about the English language. I was now in university and, believe it or not, I used that book to help me remember something I had forgotten.How could a book that I wrote at age 11 help me in university? It did and I still have it today. It wasnt until later in my life that I fully realized how much of an impact Dr.Foran had on my life.He consistently went above and beyond for his students, teaching with such enthusiasm and interest that I could never forget him. That tiny little notebook is a continual reminder that I spent my Grade 6 year trying to achieve the potential that Dr. Foran saw in me. 6As I enter a career in teaching, I can only hope to reach even one student in the way that Dr. Maxwell Foran was able to reach me. I owe much of my academic and life success to the man that forced me to find my own potential and helped me become the person I am today.
