《大學(xué)基礎(chǔ)英語教程》（高職高專版）系列教材是按照教育部高等教育司頒布的《高職高專教育英語課程教學(xué)基本要求》（試行）（以下簡稱《基本要求》），由廈門大學(xué)外文學(xué)院及部分高職高專院校具有豐富教學(xué)經(jīng)驗(yàn)的老師編寫的。本教材以高職高專近幾年來學(xué)生入學(xué)和在學(xué)的實(shí)際英語水平為依據(jù)，注重培養(yǎng)學(xué)生聽、說、讀、寫、譯的綜合能力，強(qiáng)調(diào)“循序漸進(jìn)，由易而難”的原則。教材以當(dāng)代英語常見的語體和文體為主，所選篇章來自英美新近的出版物，題材廣泛，內(nèi)容新穎，時(shí)代氣息濃厚，且語言規(guī)范，融實(shí)用性、知識(shí)性和趣味性于一體?！　”緯薪滩挠筛山坛獭洞髮W(xué)基礎(chǔ)英語教程》1～3冊(cè)、《英語綜合進(jìn)階練習(xí)》1～3冊(cè)以及《老師用書》1～3冊(cè)組成。　　本書是大學(xué)基礎(chǔ)英語系列教材中主干教程的第二冊(cè)。本教材以福建省高職高專近幾年來學(xué)生入學(xué)和在學(xué)的實(shí)際英語水平為依據(jù)，在注重培養(yǎng)學(xué)生聽、說、讀、寫、譯綜合能力的基礎(chǔ)上，循序漸進(jìn)，由易而難。本書包含十二個(gè)單元，采用每一單元設(shè)一主題的形式，每單元由兩篇文章Text A和Text B組成。主題涉及當(dāng)代生活的各個(gè)方面，學(xué)生可以將語言學(xué)習(xí)慣穿在了解和探討現(xiàn)實(shí)生活中的各種問題過程當(dāng)中。

　　4 One day, I realized that my homework was always getting done. I had answers to give and comments to make in class. I found my hand shooting up in the air as fast as it could, in hopes that I might be called upon for an answer. By the end of the year I had been in competition with myself to receive achievement awards. My confidence began to soar. In past years I had phone calls home reminding my Morn that I was a social butterfly. Iwas constantly getting into trouble and really had no reason to change. That year I had calls home letting my Morn know how wonderful I was doing. What a change！ The year I spent in Dr. Forans Grade 6 classroom was the year that I started my future as both a learner and a teacher.　　5 Over 10 years later I came across a book that once meant so much to me. It was the language arts notebook that I had saved from Grade 6. It had been my guide to everything I ever needed to know about the English language. I was now in university and, believe it or not, I used that book to help me remember something I had forgotten.How could a book that I wrote at age 11 help me in university？ It did and I still have it today. It wasnt until later in my life that I fully realized how much of an impact Dr.Foran had on my life.He consistently went above and beyond for his students, teaching with such enthusiasm and interest that I could never forget him. That tiny little notebook is a continual reminder that I spent my Grade 6 year trying to achieve the potential that Dr. Foran saw in me.　　6As I enter a career in teaching, I can only hope to reach even one student in the way that Dr. Maxwell Foran was able to reach me. I owe much of my academic and life success to the man that forced me to find my own potential and helped me become the person I am today.
