新編大學英語快速閱讀

前言

《新編大學英語快速閱讀》系列教材是一套依據(jù)最新的教學理念，以最新的素材結合《大學英語課程教學要求（試行）》而編寫的供大學英語快速閱讀教學使用的教材。本教材基于信息時代閱讀量大的背景，結合《大學英語課程教學要求（試行）》所要求的閱讀速度，從第一冊至第四冊循序漸進地設計編寫，盡量避免生僻詞匯影響閱讀速度，而完全注重于閱讀技能的培養(yǎng)和提高，這也是本教材區(qū)別于其他同類教材的亮點。在難度安排上，本教材避免了傳統(tǒng)的根據(jù)文章難易度排列的模式，而是根據(jù)對相近難易度文章的不同閱讀速度的要求來安排，使之更符合快速閱讀的教學理念。在習題的設計上，本教材參考了《大學英語四級考試大綱（2006修訂版）》中快速閱讀的習題模式，使學生在參加此類考試時能輕車熟路，少走彎路。本教材第一版在上海大學等多家綜合性大學及?？圃盒Ｊ褂?，受到相關師生的一致好評，榮獲“教育部推薦使用大學外語類教材”，此次由原班編寫人馬，傾力再造，對之加以完善，以期更符合中國一般高等院校的教學實際，而不是供少數(shù)精英學校使用的陽春白雪版本。由于作者知識面所限，教材中難免有疏漏，望老師和同學們不吝指正。

On October 8, 1990, my mother's 65th birthday, while I was playingtennis with a secondary-school friend I hadn't seen for a while, a carcame screaming up the road toward the courts. It was my friend's father,who shouted to my buddy that his baby had stopped breathing and wasbeing rushed to the hospital. In a flash my friend was in the car and gone,disappearing in a cloud of dust.For a moment I just stood there. Then I tried to figure out what Ishould do. Follow my friend to the hospital？ Nothing I could do or saywould affect the outcome. Be there for moral support？ Well, maybe. Butmy friend and his wife both had large families, and I knew there would bemore than enough comfort and support, whatever happened. Also, I hadplanned a full day with my family. So I decided to head back to my folk'shouse and check in with my friend later.As I started my rental car, I realized that my friend had left his truckand keys at the courts. Reluctantly I decided to swing by the hospital andgive him the keys.When I arrived, I was directed to a room where my friend and his wifewere waiting. As I had thought, the room was filled with family memberssilently watching my friend comfort his wife.
