內(nèi)容概要

IELTS(International English Language Testing System)“國際英語語言測試系統(tǒng)”是全球認可的英語語言能力評估系統(tǒng)，也是進入大多數(shù)英語系國家高等學(xué)府就讀必備的英語能力證明，特別受到英國、澳大利亞、新西蘭、加拿大等國認可，而目前美國大多數(shù)大學(xué)也承認IELTS成績。IELTS測試由英國文化協(xié)會（The British Council）、劍橋大學(xué)考試委員會（Cambridge ESOL）及澳大利亞教育國際開發(fā)署（IDP Education Australia）共同舉辦，由劍橋大學(xué)考試委員會統(tǒng)籌管理。除了計劃前往英語系國家就讀大學(xué)、研究生院、?？萍夹g(shù)學(xué)院、預(yù)科課程者適合參加IELTS測試外，凡申請澳大利亞、新西蘭、加拿大、美國移民者，或是擔(dān)任英國及澳洲各政府部門實習(xí)生、參加國防部及公共醫(yī)療會議等專業(yè)人士，均可參加IELTS測試。

作者簡介

Daniel Sansoni，劍橋臺北語言中心資深教師，University of Western Australia大學(xué)博士，獲英語教學(xué)證書，有近10年IELTS教學(xué)經(jīng)驗。

　　CANNIBALISM　　A The 2002 case of consensual cannibalism in Germany, in which Armin Meiwes slaughtered and ate Jurgen B, has brought this controversial subject back into the forum. Considered by many to be the most heinous of crimes, cannibalism, nevertheless, still holds a lot of fascination for people. This can be seen in the popularity of fiction and non-fiction accounts of cannibal killers. Dr Hannibal "the Cannibal "Lecter from The Silence of the Lambs is virtually a household name, while real-life cannibals like Jeffrey Dahmer and Ed Gein achieved remarkable notoriety. Perhaps the most disturbing example of this phenomenon is the story of Issei Sagawa. Sagawa, an English literature student at the Sorbonne, fell in love with a German woman, who he then murdered and ate. Judged unfit to stand trial in France, he was extradited back to Japan, where, unrepentant, he became a national celebrity, writing several bestselling novels. Now free, he writes his own regular column.B The above are all cases of pathological cannibalism, but has cannibalism ever been socially acceptable? Anthropologists fred this a difficult topic because it arouses such strong feelings in people. The word "annibal" comes from Columbus description of a Caribbean tribe called the Caniba who were reputedly man-eaters. Europeans declared cannibalism the worst evil and so gave themselves justification for the violent subjugation of indigenous peoples. Thus, cannibalism was used to justify colonisation of the Americas and many Pacific isles, as well as Africa.
