內(nèi)容概要

本書不是“史書”，沒有長篇的敘事，它只是以歷史為線索突出介紹西方文化史中的重要?dú)v史時(shí)期、重大事件、重大思想流派和重要人物；重點(diǎn)介紹在每個(gè)特定的歷史階段中，西方社會(huì)在哲學(xué)、宗教、思想、制度、文學(xué)、藝術(shù)、科技等方面所取得的重大成就；探討西方為什么能在15世紀(jì)后飛速發(fā)展，其物質(zhì)成就中有多少是以它的文化積淀獲取的。 本書從內(nèi)容到形式力圖做到融知識(shí)性、趣味性和可讀性為一體。 在使用本書的過程中，希望讀者能正確地認(rèn)識(shí)、理解和對(duì)待西方文化。尤其是對(duì)于西方的政治制度和思想輿論要客觀地分析、冷靜地審視。要從文化地域性、多元性角度進(jìn)行理解。本書可作為高等學(xué)校大學(xué)英語的選修課教材。本書也適合于具有一定英語水平的西方文化愛好者閱讀。
