LIVE JOYFULLY TODAY! Most people go through life putting off their joy and happiness. They say, I will be happy "someday", arier I achieve my goal or dream. Only then do they feel they will be able to enjoy life to the fullest. The truth is that if we decide to be happy now, well automatically achieve more. While goals provide a magnificent direction and a way to focus our life, we must constantly strive to live each day to its fullest, squeezing all the joy we can out of each moment. Instead of measuring our success and failure in life by our ability to achieve an individualized and specific goal, let us measure success by the joy we have while working toward our goals. Life is short! Dont put off joy and happiness. If goal setting means that only someday--after graduation, after you find a good job, after you become famous--only then will you be happy, then you are missing out on real life. There is a big difference between achieving to be happy and happily achieving. Strive to live each day to its fullest, squeezing all the joy you can out of each moment. Instead of measuring your lifes value by your progress toward your lifes goal, measure it by the joy you find each day as you work toward your goal. Life-Link: Our Words to You QUESTIONS ARE THE ANSWER What makes the biggest difference in whom you become and how far you will go in life? Its not the events in your life that shape your future, its the way you interpret and evaluate those experiences. Great men and women have come from all kinds of backgrounds. Some were rich and educated, and others were poor. Many had great difficulties to overcome. So, its not the events or things that happen in your life that shape your future. Its how you interpret and evaluate your particular life experiences. Here is what I mean. Lets suppose you get sick and have to drop out of school for a semester. One student would interpret that as bad luck and possibly give up on school. Someone else might use the time spent in bed as an opportunity to do some extra reading and go back to school better prepared and more eager than ever before. The difference between the two students reaction to being sick will depend on what kind of questions each student has asked himself. Student one might have asked himself, "Why does bad luck always happen to me?" His answer might have been, "because It was not meant to go to school." The other student might have asked: "how can I use my time in bed to my advantage?" and then have answered the question by saying, "I can read!" Whenever we ask ourselves questions we always get an answer. Try it! The better questions you ask yourself the better the answers you will get. Whenever you are confronted with a problem you dont know how to solve, ask yourself good questions and you will come up with good solutions. The kind of questions you ask will determine your furore! Life-Link: Our Words to You FOCUS ON SOLUTIONS, NOT PROBLEMS Learning a second language should empower your life! Yes, I believe that, or I would not have become involved in writing this book. This study of English should change and empower your life--even ifyou use English only a little bit. Let me show you what I mean by using the reverse example of myself, an English speaker learning a little Chinese. One of the English words you should be familiar with is the word "crisis". The English definition from the dictionary is this: "a time of great trouble". I have lived and worked with that definition all my life--until I studied Chinese. The word "crisis" in Chinese is composed of two Chinese characters: one represents danger, and the other represents opportunity. From my little study of Chinese I learned a lot about how to deal with my own life "crises". I have learned that a life "crisis" can be a dangerous time, but it can also be a time of opportunity. It all depends on how you look at it! That little language study has changed my life! What a great insight for living was gained by studying another language! In "crisis" situations of life we can choose to focus on danger or opportunity, on problems or solutions. Instead of seeing a "crisis" as a problem, I learned to see it as an opportunity. This understanding will also give you great power in the midst of your problems. Here is a thought: Never spend more than 10 percent of your time on a problem. Always spend at least 90 percent of your time on seeking the solutions and opportunities a problem provides. We all have "crises" in our lives. How you view a "crisis" situation determines how it will affect your life.
