內(nèi)容概要

本書幾乎涉及作者語言理論的所有重要方面，是了解系統(tǒng)功能語言學基本思想的形成和發(fā)展的必讀之書，書中收錄了作者于1972年至1976抻期間寫成的13篇文章。有兩點從一開始就需要引起注意。一是寫于不同時間的13篇文章之所以能放在一起編成一本專著，是因為它們有著共同的主題，即都把語言看作是一種社會符號，并力圖從社會和文化的角度對語言的性質(zhì)和意義進行了詮釋。二是這些文章在內(nèi)容上有若干重疊之處，如語域、語境、語言系統(tǒng)以及語言與教育之間的關系等論題多次出現(xiàn)，甚至貫穿于全書始終，因而我們寫導讀時沒有嚴格按照文章編排的順序，而是打破了章節(jié)的界限，抓住幾個關鍵的問題進行評價，以幫助讀者較快地了解和掌握全書的精髓。
