前言

　　“新標(biāo)準(zhǔn)高職高專公共英語系列教材”是上海外語教育出版社出版的普通高等教育“十一五”國家級(jí)規(guī)劃教材。該套教材經(jīng)由全國眾多高職院校使用后，獲得普遍好評(píng)。為了幫助學(xué)生進(jìn)一步鞏固教材傳授的知識(shí)點(diǎn)，更好地發(fā)揮教材的效用，外教社又策劃、組織編寫了本套練習(xí)冊(cè)，配合該系列教材的《實(shí)用綜合教程》使用?！　”緯鵀椤秾?shí)用綜合教程》第四冊(cè)的練習(xí)冊(cè)，編寫時(shí)除以教育部頒發(fā)的《高職高專教育英語課程教學(xué)基本要求（試行）》、《高等學(xué)校英語應(yīng)用能力考試大綱》和《實(shí)用綜合教程4》為依據(jù)外，我們還在練習(xí)設(shè)計(jì)方面較多地考慮了學(xué)生在完成高職高專公共英語學(xué)習(xí)任務(wù)后進(jìn)一步學(xué)習(xí)英語、尤其是參加大學(xué)英語四級(jí)考試的需要，為他們提供力所能及的幫助?！　「鶕?jù)《實(shí)用綜合教程4》每個(gè)單元的課文、重點(diǎn)詞匯、語法和課后練習(xí)中的重點(diǎn)和難點(diǎn)，我們?cè)O(shè)計(jì)了相關(guān)的拓展練習(xí)，主要是讓學(xué)生動(dòng)手填寫的構(gòu)建型練習(xí)。這些練習(xí)由淺人深，層層深化，通過讓學(xué)生動(dòng)手寫出單詞、句子和段落來加深印象，以期幫助學(xué)生記牢學(xué)好?！　ocabulary部分有5個(gè)大題，主要訓(xùn)練每單元課文中出現(xiàn)的重點(diǎn)單詞和短語，通過英文的詞義匹配、用單詞和短語的適當(dāng)形式填空、根據(jù)上下文把括號(hào)中的漢語譯成英語、查閱句中關(guān)鍵詞的英語意思并將句子譯成漢語等形式的練習(xí)，實(shí)現(xiàn)增強(qiáng)記憶、學(xué)會(huì)運(yùn)用的目標(biāo)?！　rammar部分有3個(gè)大題，通過辨別句中斜體部分的語法功能、用單詞和短語的適當(dāng)形式填空、根據(jù)上下文把括號(hào)中的漢語譯成英語等練習(xí)形式，復(fù)習(xí)和鞏固教材中出現(xiàn)的主要語法現(xiàn)象，達(dá)到溫故知新的效果?！　ast Reading部分的選文是一篇長(zhǎng)度在700個(gè)單詞左右的文章，選文時(shí)，我們不僅注意了文章與課文主題的相關(guān)性和難易度，更注重文章的科學(xué)性、趣味性和可讀性。選文保持原汁原味，基本不做刪節(jié)或修改。但為了方便學(xué)生閱讀，我們?yōu)槲恼轮谐霈F(xiàn)的生詞注明了漢語意思，一方面不影響學(xué)生的閱讀速度，另一方面對(duì)適當(dāng)擴(kuò)大學(xué)生的詞匯量有一定幫助。這個(gè)練習(xí)的題型完全按照大學(xué)英語四級(jí)考試快速閱讀的命題模式進(jìn)行，和大學(xué)英語四級(jí)考試快速閱讀真題不同的是，文章長(zhǎng)度較短。但是，學(xué)生通過這個(gè)練習(xí)的訓(xùn)練，會(huì)為以后參加大學(xué)英語四級(jí)考試打下一個(gè)比較堅(jiān)實(shí)的基礎(chǔ)。

　　Passion has its own energy to enable us to overcome obstacles （both real andimagined） and to see the world as a place of infinite potential. It plays an important role on one's way to success. You have to be driven by a passion for your subject， andthen it in turn leads to your goals. It is the real key that makes successful people successful in their life.　　Ability to accept a risk —— Successful people are risk takers. I do not know anyone who has succeeded that has not been able to assess and take a risk and then live with the consequence —— success or failure. Risk avoidance is a sure way to remain mediocre （平庸） ； being safe does not promote personal growth. Failure or making amistake is not a bad thing； it's a proof you were exploring new ways to do something，and that's better than safe success. We learn from our mistakes， not our successes. They can sustain a high level of ambiguity （模棱兩可） ； they do not need to knowwhere they are. They do not mind being lost， for they call it just taking the longer， more interesting way around.　　High self-esteem —— Think well of yourself. You are not boastful or egotistical （自負(fù)的）， but do have an honest assessment of your skills， abilities and handicaps， knowhow to play to your strengths， overcome your weaknesses and work toward gettingbetter.　　Persistence —— You have to do this long enough. How long is long enough? Well，it will take 10 years. I have asked hundreds of accomplished photographers， writers，filmmakers， painters and musicians how long it took before they felt they were ableto speak from a source within. Ten years has been their unanimous （一致的） answer. Thomas Edison went through hundreds of failures until he came up with a working light bulb. Had he given up after the first few or even the first hundred failures， someone else's name would be associated with the invention of the light bulb.　　Being nice to work with —— Why is being nice important? Success is rarely a soloventure. You need others to help you acquire the craft， help you discover and develop your vision， give you a job， introduce you to opportunities. Their willingness to help will be commensurate （同樣大小的，相稱的） with your ability to get along with others. People want to help others， but only if they show a willingness to work， tocontribute and are nice to have around. People want to have positive， enthusiastic people around， people who will solve problems， not create them.　　......
