新世紀(jì)大學(xué)英語(yǔ)系列教材

前言

　　“新世紀(jì)大學(xué)英語(yǔ)系列教材”是上海外語(yǔ)教育出版社根據(jù)《大學(xué)英語(yǔ)課程教學(xué)要求》組織編寫(xiě)的。該教材立足國(guó)情，博采眾長(zhǎng)，堅(jiān)持人本主義教育觀，努力開(kāi)發(fā)學(xué)習(xí)者的“自我潛能”，注重學(xué)生英語(yǔ)綜合運(yùn)用能力的培養(yǎng)和語(yǔ)言技能、語(yǔ)言知識(shí)、情感態(tài)度、學(xué)習(xí)策略和跨文化交際意識(shí)等方面整體協(xié)調(diào)的發(fā)展，以實(shí)現(xiàn)《課程要求》的整體教學(xué)目標(biāo)?！　閹椭鷱V大同學(xué)更好地學(xué)習(xí)、使用該系列中的《綜合教程》，在上海外語(yǔ)教育出版社的精心策劃下，我們組織了以《綜合教程》的編者為主體的編寫(xiě)隊(duì)伍，編寫(xiě)了這套《學(xué)習(xí)手冊(cè)））。本套《學(xué)習(xí)手冊(cè)》共四冊(cè)，編排上緊扣《綜合教程》，主要由以下幾部分組成：　　一、開(kāi)始篇（（Jet Started）　　這是每單元的預(yù)熱部分，其目的在于激活同學(xué)們關(guān)于本單元主題已有的背景知識(shí)，鼓勵(lì)大家開(kāi)口，與同學(xué)們分享自己的經(jīng)驗(yàn)和體會(huì)。為了幫助學(xué)生更好地表達(dá)，我們給出了一些有用的單詞和短語(yǔ)供回答問(wèn)題時(shí)參考?？紤]到要準(zhǔn)確理解名人語(yǔ)錄可能會(huì)有一定困難，我們還提供了這些名人語(yǔ)錄的漢語(yǔ)譯文?！　《⑦吢?tīng)邊答（Listen and Respond）　　本部分為一篇與主題相關(guān)的錄音材料，它可以進(jìn)一步激活學(xué)生關(guān)于這一主題的背景知識(shí)，并達(dá)到訓(xùn)練聽(tīng)力和口語(yǔ)的目的。為幫助同學(xué)們課前預(yù)習(xí)或課后復(fù)習(xí)，我們提供了錄音材料的原文和問(wèn)答題的參考答案。

　　The Importance of Protecting Sea Resources　　During the 19th century, people in Europe and America claimed that marine resourceswere unlimited. For example, a noted biologist at the time commented that none of the worldsgreat sea fisheries were ever going to be exhausted.　　Today though, there is evidence showing that marine resources are as seriously endan-gered as those of the land and the air. In fact, in some ways the threats to fish are more alarmingthan the threats to animals and birds. This is because fish is a much needed food resource, aspeople throughout the world depend on fish as an important part of their diet. It is reported thatto satisfy food demands, 20 billion pounds offish are harvested every year in the North Atlanticalone. Sea resources are also rapidly declining in many other parts of the world.　　Scientists now believe that food supplies from the sea wont last forever. They warn thatexcessive fishing will destroy fish reserves within the next few years. They also warn that thedecline in fish supply will cause starvation in some parts of the world.
