前言

　　《新編英語教程》第七、八冊(cè)供高等學(xué)校（四年制）英語專業(yè)四年級(jí)學(xué)生使用。其目的主要是培養(yǎng)閱讀技能，兼顧語言基本功的進(jìn)÷步訓(xùn)練和英語綜合技能的進(jìn)一步培養(yǎng)，使學(xué)生在學(xué)完本教材后，在英語知識(shí)和技能方面能夠達(dá)到高等學(xué)校英語專業(yè)高年級(jí)英語教學(xué)大綱所提出的要求。本教程的編寫原則列舉如下：　　1.采用啟發(fā)式教學(xué)模式，引導(dǎo)學(xué)生獨(dú)立工作、獨(dú)立思考，培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的邏輯思維能力。　　本教材在教學(xué)的不同環(huán)節(jié)，啟發(fā)學(xué)生進(jìn)行不同的活動(dòng)，務(wù)必使學(xué)生不僅能獨(dú)立工作，而且能進(jìn)行邏輯思維，善于獨(dú)立思考。例如，在課文前有課前思考題、查工具書等活動(dòng)。課文后的理解題除了針對(duì)大意、細(xì)節(jié)的提問外，更有推理性問題，啟迪學(xué)生深入思考。在篇章結(jié)構(gòu)、修辭手段等方面，除了給以一定的基礎(chǔ)知識(shí)外，要求學(xué)生自行解釋分析?！　?.選材范圍廣泛，以擴(kuò)大學(xué)生的文化知識(shí)面并使學(xué)生熟稔不同的文體?！　”窘坛陶n文大部分選自當(dāng)代文選，也有若干篇選自現(xiàn)代經(jīng)典著作。文字精練，語言典范。選材題材廣泛，諸如語言、文學(xué)、哲學(xué)、教育、社會(huì)、文化等都占有一定篇幅。選材體裁多樣，除了不同類型的說明文外，還有記敘文、描寫文、論說文等。通過學(xué)習(xí)這些課文，學(xué)生將對(duì)現(xiàn)代英語的不同側(cè)面、西方社會(huì)和文化等方面加深認(rèn)識(shí)。課文力求富有知識(shí)性、趣味性，和修辭文體美。學(xué)生能在擴(kuò)大知識(shí)面的同時(shí)習(xí)得優(yōu)美的語言?！　?.編寫大量語言練習(xí)，以鞏固和擴(kuò)大學(xué)生的語言知識(shí)，繼續(xù)打好語言基本功。　　本教材首先是閱讀教材，但也不忽視語言基本功的訓(xùn)練。進(jìn)一步加強(qiáng)基本功訓(xùn)練有利于學(xué)生閱讀技能的提高。為此在每課課文后編有大量加強(qiáng)語言基本功的練習(xí)。例如閱讀理解、詞句釋意、改正錯(cuò)誤等。通過這些練習(xí)，學(xué)生不僅能提高閱讀理解，而且能增強(qiáng)語感，正確運(yùn)用英語?！　?.編寫不同類型的練習(xí)，以培養(yǎng)英語綜合技能。　　綜合技能訓(xùn)練在高年級(jí)要繼續(xù)加強(qiáng)，不斷提高，但并不是基礎(chǔ)階段綜合技能訓(xùn)練的重復(fù)。本教材對(duì)閱讀理解、篇章結(jié)構(gòu)、文體修辭各方面有數(shù)量不等的不同練習(xí)。這些練習(xí)在課堂上可以進(jìn)行討論，以收聽說訓(xùn)練之效。每單元都有寫短文的練習(xí)，可以訓(xùn)練學(xué)生寫作能力。而閱讀技能更是重點(diǎn)訓(xùn)練項(xiàng)目。在高年級(jí)階段，聽說讀寫四會(huì)能力不能再割裂開來作為單項(xiàng)技能訓(xùn)練，因?yàn)樗鼈冎g相互配合、相互關(guān)聯(lián)、相互影響?？陬^討論要有閱讀的基礎(chǔ)，但又能加深閱讀理解，提高寫作水平。寫的能力來自于閱讀，也有助于口語能力的提高。閱讀為學(xué)生提供語言素材，是高年級(jí)語言學(xué)習(xí)的源泉。因而四會(huì)訓(xùn)練雖然分別進(jìn)行，但實(shí)質(zhì)上是綜合語言技能訓(xùn)練的一個(gè)統(tǒng)一體?！　?.在有限的篇幅中，給以較大的語言輸入量，以保證學(xué)生有充分的語言攝入量。

內(nèi)容概要

《新編英語教程》（修訂版）是供高等學(xué)校英語專業(yè)四年制本科生使用的綜合英語教材，能幫助學(xué)生練好堅(jiān)實(shí)的語言基本功，使他們的英語綜合技能達(dá)到得心應(yīng)手、運(yùn)用自如的程度；使他們具有寬廣的社會(huì)科學(xué)和自然科學(xué)方面的知識(shí)；使他們能靈活地進(jìn)行有效的社會(huì)交際活動(dòng)。    本教材共分九級(jí)：    ·預(yù)備級(jí)——為學(xué)生提供最基本的英語語音、語法和詞匯知識(shí)及其應(yīng)用方法，是日后熟練掌握英語綜合技能的奠基石。本級(jí)教材有學(xué)生用書、練習(xí)冊(cè)、教師用書。    ·第1至4級(jí)——供基礎(chǔ)階段學(xué)生使用，每級(jí)都有學(xué)生用書、練習(xí)冊(cè)、教師用書、MP3錄音。    ·第5至6級(jí)——供高年級(jí)學(xué)生使用，每級(jí)都有學(xué)生用書、練習(xí)冊(cè)、教師用書、MP3錄音。    ·第7至8級(jí)——供高年級(jí)學(xué)生使用，每級(jí)都有學(xué)生用書、練習(xí)參考答案。

　　Called voluntary simplicity was the birth of their daughter and a powerful desire to raise her themselves. Neither one of them, it turned out, was willing to restrict what they considered their "real life" into the brief time before work and the tired hours afterward.　　"A lot of people think that as they have children and things get more expensive, the only answer is to work harder in order to earn more money. Its not the only answer," insists Michael.　　The couples decision was to trade two full-time careers for two half-time careers, and to curtail consumption. They decided to spend their money only on things that contributed to their major goal, the construction of a world where family and friendship, work and play, were all of a piece, a world, moreover, which did not make wasteful use of the earths resources.　　Today, they live in the same suburban community in a handsome, energy-efficient home they designed themselves. Small by most standards, it is easy to clean, furnish, maintain and heat. The first floor, one large room, has a kitchen area along one wall, a birch table and chairs for dining, a living area defined by a comfortable couch and a wood stove, and a corner work area. Upstairs is a childs bedroom, topped by a loft5 which is the master bedroom, an office that serves them both, and a bathroom. It is bright and light and in harmony with its surroundings. Soon there will be a solar greenhouse outside the front door.　　How can a couple with two part-time freelance jobs6 afford to build their own home, own a car, and share a small boat with another couple　 all without a loan7 How can they maintain a high standard of living that provides "everything" they want？ What is it they have given up that they do not miss？
