章節(jié)摘錄
Japanese children enter elementary school in April after they are six years old. They attend elementaryschool for six years, where they study Japanese, arithmetic(算術(shù)), science, social studies, music, crafts(工藝),physical education, and home economics(to learn simple cooking and sewing skills). English and informationtechnology are added when they enter middle school. There are many school events, such as field day when students compete in tug-of-war (拔河)and relay races, excursions(遠(yuǎn)足)to points of historical significance (意義), and arts and culture festivals featuring performancesby children. There are also three- or four-day trips to important cities like Kyoto and Nara, ski resorts, and otherplaces for students in the highest grades of elementary, middle and high schools. Most middle schools require uniforms for their students. Almost all middle school students take part in anafter-school activity according to their own choices, such as a musical or arts group, a sports team, or a scienceclub. All Japanese children are required to attend school until the ninth grade. Although schooling is not compulsory(強制的)after middle school, nearly 97% of Japanese students go on to high school, which lasts for threeyears. Over 55% of high school graduates say they want to go on to four-year universities or two or three-yearjunior colleges. Students must pass tests in order to enter high school or college, and they study very hard for these exams.
