　　It seems that there will never have been a civilization without toys， but whenand how toys developed is still unknown by most of us. Maybe they just came about to give children something interesting to do.　　In the ancient time， as it is nowadays， most boys liked to play with somekinds of toys and most girls with another. In such societies where social roles are rigidly determined， boys often pattern their play after the activities of their fathers andgirls after the tasks of their mothers. This is true in that boys and girls are gettingprepared to step into the roles and responsibilities of the adult world.　　What is remarkable about the toy history is not so much how they altered over the centuries but how much they have remained are same.These changes have been mostly in terms of craftsmanship， mechanics， and technology. It is the universality of the toys as to their development in all ：parts ofthe world and their persistence6 to the present that is amazing.　In Egypt，the Americas， China， Japan and among the Arctic （北極的）peoples， generally thesame kinds of toys appeared.
