前言

  上海市教委制定的《面向21世紀(jì)上海市中小學(xué)外語(yǔ)學(xué)科教育改革行動(dòng)綱領(lǐng)》明確要求高中畢業(yè)生要做到一門(mén)外語(yǔ)能力基本過(guò)關(guān)。為真正提高學(xué)生聽(tīng)、說(shuō)、讀、寫(xiě)的能力,高中外語(yǔ)詞匯量要求達(dá)到5千單詞,閱讀量達(dá)到60萬(wàn)個(gè)單詞?! ∫_(dá)到這樣的目標(biāo),依靠課堂內(nèi)閱讀有限的課文材料顯然是遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)不夠的。學(xué)生只有通過(guò)足夠的閱讀訓(xùn)練,才能獲得較為理想的語(yǔ)言能力。  閱讀能力的強(qiáng)弱相當(dāng)程度上反映出學(xué)生語(yǔ)言運(yùn)用能力的優(yōu)劣。因而在各種水平的英語(yǔ)考試中,閱讀理解的測(cè)試都是一個(gè)非常重要的部分。加強(qiáng)閱讀方面的訓(xùn)練,有利于英語(yǔ)水平的提高,自然也是備考工作中不可或缺的一環(huán)了?! ∮需b于此,我們選編了這一本《新編高中英語(yǔ)閱讀強(qiáng)化訓(xùn)練》供學(xué)生課外閱讀。本書(shū)內(nèi)容分為社會(huì)與文化、科學(xué)與技術(shù)以及趣味故事等三大類(lèi)別。前兩個(gè)部分的閱讀主要是以獲取信息為目的,后一部分的閱讀則更多是為了提高興趣。對(duì)于提高閱讀能力來(lái)說(shuō),各種材料的閱讀都是必要的。通過(guò)閱讀各種類(lèi)型的材料,可以鞏固和擴(kuò)大詞匯量,提高理解力和閱讀速度。但從考試角度來(lái)看,則宜將重點(diǎn)較多地集中在知識(shí)性的材料。為此,我們?cè)谶x材的比例上較多地偏向于前兩個(gè)部分:在所選的材料中社會(huì)文化和科技知識(shí)類(lèi)共占72.5%,而故事類(lèi)則只占27.5%。根據(jù)通用的測(cè)試習(xí)慣,每篇材料后都設(shè)計(jì)了五道測(cè)試?yán)斫饽芰Φ倪x擇題。書(shū)后附有全部答案。  希望本書(shū)對(duì)高中學(xué)生英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)會(huì)有所幫助。書(shū)中凡有疏漏不妥之處,謹(jǐn)請(qǐng)讀者指正為感。

We foundout they are ordinary people, just like us,”said One tourist。But if Americans werent all six-foot-six, the travelers~~tid they did find them large inanother way。They also were impressed by the Grand Canyon. “We have canyons in South Africa,but they wouldnt be the filling in a tooth compared to this one,” a traveller said。She said she was impressed by the orderly, efficient way large crowds of people werehandled at Disneyland in California and at the White House tour?!癗obody jumped queue even once or tried to be pushy,” she said?!癢e thought the cabbies in New York were especially helpful and friendly, ”she add-ed。But some group members were shocked by the derelicts in New York City, sleeping onpark benches and in subway entrances。“We saw this one poor man without any shoes on and hi:elothe dirty:and worn-out. Ithink it is shocking, and your government should do something to help those people,” saidODe woman。Her husband also said they were surprised to see so many drunks in the streets。
