阿瑟·柯南·道爾Arthur Conan
Doyle（1859—1930），英國(guó)著名小說(shuō)家，因成功塑造歇洛克·福爾摩斯這一人物而成為偵探小說(shuō)歷史上最重要的作家之一。福爾摩斯的形象也因而享譽(yù)世界。他生于愛丁堡，后入愛丁堡大學(xué)學(xué)醫(yī)。畢業(yè)后開診所，僅能維持生活。閑時(shí)開始創(chuàng)作小說(shuō)，1887年，發(fā)表《血字的研究》。道爾一生一共寫了56篇短篇偵探小說(shuō)以及4部中篇偵探小說(shuō)，全部以福爾摩斯為主角。福爾摩斯偵探故事被人熟知和喜愛。后在《最后一案》中讓福爾摩斯死去，引起諸多讀者砸其家玻璃發(fā)泄不滿，遂在《空屋》一案中讓福爾摩斯復(fù)活。福爾摩斯探案系列使他躋身最成功的作家之列，如果要找一位和他相匹敵的作家，那只能是創(chuàng)作了俠盜亞森·羅賓的法國(guó)作家莫里斯·勒布朗。除偵探小說(shuō)，柯南道爾還涉足科幻小說(shuō)，歷史小說(shuō)、愛情小說(shuō)、戲劇、詩(shī)歌等領(lǐng)域。
