作者簡介

　　簡·奧斯汀出生于英國鄉(xiāng)村小鎮(zhèn)史蒂文頓，父親是位學(xué)問淵博的牧師，母親出身于比較富有的家庭，也具有一定的文化修養(yǎng)。因此，奧斯汀雖然沒有上過正規(guī)學(xué)校，但是家庭的優(yōu)良條件和讀書環(huán)境給她提供了自學(xué)的便利，培養(yǎng)了她寫作的興趣?！独碇桥c情感》初稿寫成于1795年，后來幾經(jīng)修改，過了十多年才出版，是奧斯汀最富于幽默情趣的作品之一。其他著名作品還有《傲慢與偏見》、《曼斯菲爾德花園》、《愛瑪》、《諾桑覺寺》和《勸導(dǎo)》。其中最后兩部是她病逝以后由哥哥亨利負(fù)責(zé)出版的，并且開始使用簡·奧斯汀這個真名。奧斯汀終生未婚，居住在恬靜的鄉(xiāng)村小鎮(zhèn)，接觸到的是小地主鄉(xiāng)紳、牧師等人物，因而她的作品中沒有重大的社會沖突。她以女性特有的細(xì)致入微的觀察力，真實地描繪了她周圍的小天地，尤其是紳士淑女間的愛情和婚姻風(fēng)波，格調(diào)輕松詼諧，深受讀者歡迎。

She had beenquite overlooked by her cousins; and as her own opinion of her claimson Sir Thomass affection was much too humble to give her any idea of classing herself with his children， she was glad to remain behind and gain alittle breathing time.
