The Internet is developing at a surprising speed and is changing the whole way of ur lifeand education.For example,it is claimed that children can just study at home,making full useof abundant information on the Internet,instead of going to schools as they did before.Thereis no denying that the Internet plays an important role in the domain of education but,as far asI am concerned,it is far from enough to ensure an education as comprehensive and wholesomeas schools do. Admittedly,the Internet is doomed to play an inevitable role in children’S education.If astudent cannot explore the virtual world by using IE or Firefox,etc,he or she will be in dan-ger of being kept from what iS going on in the world.However。those students who know howto search for the valuable information available on the Web tend to gain themselves big advan.rages in that they can browse for more detailed information about the subjects discussed inclass,gaining a deeper insight into the events or experiments and acquiring a multi-dimensionalunderstanding of the current issues,since SO great a variety of related information can be ac-cessed by some powerful search engines such as G ogle,or Baidu.However,this does not au-tomatically mean the Internet can play a11 the roles a school can,nor that it can take the placeof school education. School education always is,and will remain,essential for children’S upbringing,becauseit iS not only a platform to impart knowledge but also a stage to educate an individual about val-ues and attitudes,rights and wrongs,goods and evils.At school,children,encouraged bytheir peers,can benefit in a wider range.They are more likely to be sociable and outgoing,cooperative and tolerant.On the other hand。the Internet can hardly serve these functions.Even if it provides information about role samples and about moral classes,it is not up to chil-dren to choose from these“goods’’and those unsuitable“evils”online.for children are not ma-ture enough to make a good judgment and their parents are always busy working and absentfrom home. ……
