章節(jié)摘錄

Right after this false alarm Gui Ping changed his phone and revealed the new number to nobody but a few friends, relatives and work companions, which resulted in many problems for others and himself, and drew many complaints. Whatever happened, Gui Ping went all out to hold on. He was determined to remove all problems arising from the cell phone, to say goodbye to the past, to live his life, to take hold himself and escape the control of the cell phone. At last the phone lay on the desk peacefully, but Gui Ping was not at peace, and felt butterflies fluttering in his stomach. The phone had stopped harassing him, but he began to harass the phone by picking it up every now and then in case of missing calls. No calls or messages came in, however. He wondered whether something was wrong with the ring tone on the new phone and set it to vibrating mode, but it still did not vibrate. He dialed the number of his office, and got through, and he dialed his new phone number with his office phone and also got through, but when there was still nothing after another while, he sent a message to his wife asking, "How are you?" The message flew out, and he soon saw his wife's reply, "What do you mean?" Jud ging from the message, she was very irritated. Sure enough, her call soon followed, "What's wrong with you?" It's weird. No calls or messages have come in all day," Gui Ping replied. "You're weird. You always complain about the huge number of calls and problems, but now you've grown anxious on your vacation." After saying this she hung up. Gui Ping was aware there was no problem with his phone but he still felt uneasy, so he called a colleague asking, "Did you call me this morning?" The colleague said no. He called a friend, asking, "Did you send me a message this morning?" No, the friend answered. Accompanied by the deathly silence of his new phone, Gui Ping could not help but miss the old one. He dialed the old number with the new phone just to hear: "Sorry, the number you dialed is out of service." He called Li over very anxiously, and questioned him, "You put my old number out of service?" "Director Gui, you had me get you a new number." "Yes, but I never said I don't need the old one anymore. It had been with me for so many years, like a friend, how could you drop it?" "Stay cool, Director Gui. I didn't throw it away. I got you a suspension and retention service, five yuan every month, and you can hold on to the number and revive it again anytime." After a short speechless moment, Gui Ping asked, "What made you think of this service for me?" "Foresight. I predicted you would want it back." ……
