　　In the Spring and Autumn period, there was amajor minister, Yan Ying. He was very wise andalways treated people with the best manners. Sohe was very highly respected.　　Yah Ying had a wonderful horse and carriage （馬車）. When his driver sat on the carriage, driving forsuch a great man, he felt quite proud about it. Oneday, as he was driving the carriage past his home,his wife saw him sitting at the front of the carriage,so proud that she felt uncomfortable, and was quiteashamed of（以……為恥辱） him.　　That evening, when her husband came home,she told him that she felt sick when she saw howproud he was when he drove the carriage for YanYing. She said, "Yah Ying is a major minister, andhighly respected. But he sat in the carriage withoutany pride. You are only a driver, but you looked as ifyou were an even greater man than Yan Ying. I dontwant to share the same room with such a person！"The driver thought about it, and learned that he waswrong. He told her he would never do things thatway again.　　From then on, the driver tried to learn from YanYing. Yan Ying noticed this, and asked his driverwhat had caused him to change. The driver told himwhat happened. Yan Ying was pleased with what thedriver said. Later, Yan Ying offered him an officialpost.　　From the drivers previous （先前的） doing comesthis useful phrase "yang yang de yi". We use it todescribe big heads, people who are far too pleased withthemselves.
