作者簡(jiǎn)介

作者：（英國(guó)）曼（Malcolm Mann） （英國(guó)）泰勒-諾里斯（Steve Taylore-Knowles）胡敏，教授，著名教育專家、新航道國(guó)際教育集團(tuán)總裁兼校長(zhǎng)、留英學(xué)者，曾仟同際關(guān)系學(xué)院英語(yǔ)系副主任、碩士生導(dǎo)師。2004年創(chuàng)辦新航道，他不僅是中國(guó)雅思培訓(xùn)產(chǎn)業(yè)化的開(kāi)創(chuàng)者，同時(shí)，也是小國(guó)托福培訓(xùn)一代宗師和考研英語(yǔ)培訓(xùn)的領(lǐng)路人，被媒體尊稱為“中國(guó)雅思之父”，學(xué)生們親切地稱他為“胡雅思”。

插圖：The word 'guitar' was brought into English as anadaptation of the Spanish word 'guitarra: which was, inturn, derived from the Greek 'kithara'. Tracing the rootsof the word further back into linguistic history, it seemsto have been a combination of the Indo-European stem'guit-', meaning music, and the root '-tar', meaning chordor string. The root '-tar' is actually common to a numberof languages, and can also be found in the word 'sitar',also a stringed musical instrument. Although the spellingand pronunciation differ between languages, these keyelements have been present in most words for 'guitar'throughout history.  While the guitar may have gained most of its popularityas a musical instrument during the modern era, guitar-likeinstruments have been in existence in numerous culturesthroughout the world for more than 5,000 years. Theearliest instruments that the modern eye and ear wouldrecognise as a'normal'acoustic guitar date from about 500years ago. Prior to this time, stringed instruments were inuse throughout the world, but these early instrumentsare known primarily from visual depictions, not fromthe continued existence of music written for them.The majority of these depictions show simple stringedinstruments, often lacking some of the parts that define amodern guitar. A number of these instruments have morein common with the lute than the guitar.
