前言

　　《2l世紀(jì)大學(xué)實(shí)用英語》系列教材（U版）根據(jù)教育部頒發(fā)的《大學(xué)英語課程教學(xué)要求》編寫，包括《綜合教程》、《綜合練習(xí)》、《教學(xué)參考書》（每一種分為1-4冊）及配套的MP3光盤、音帶、多媒體課件、電子教案和網(wǎng)絡(luò)課程等。本套教材供高等院校普通英語教學(xué)使用?！毒C合教程》第l冊的起點(diǎn)詞匯量約為l300詞。一般以第l冊作為起點(diǎn)，基礎(chǔ)較好的學(xué)生則可以將第2冊作為起點(diǎn)?！　　毒C合教程》每冊8個單元，每個單元包括三大板塊（聽說板塊、讀寫板塊和實(shí)用板塊）和導(dǎo)語。本冊中“聽說板塊”圍繞每單元的主題，并結(jié)合高等院校學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)生活和畢業(yè)后工作實(shí)際需要，對學(xué)生進(jìn)行聽力與口語方面的專門訓(xùn)練。“讀寫板塊”由同一題材的兩篇文章以及一篇實(shí)用閱讀材料組成：Text A為精讀材料，配有課文前的熱身練習(xí)和課文后的口語、閱讀理解、詞匯、結(jié)構(gòu)、翻譯等技能訓(xùn)練；Text B為泛讀材料；Text C為擴(kuò)展閱讀材料，課后也均配有與課文相關(guān)的練習(xí)?！皩?shí)用板塊”則根據(jù)高等院校英語教學(xué)的特點(diǎn)，提供以提高職業(yè)技能和素質(zhì)為目標(biāo)的實(shí)用訓(xùn)練，包括語法復(fù)習(xí)、實(shí)用寫作和基本閱讀技能等內(nèi)容。為方便教學(xué)，實(shí)用板塊穿插于每一單元中?！　　毒C合練習(xí)》每冊8個單元，每個單元包括兩個部分。第一部分是根據(jù)《綜合教程》各個單元中TextA和TextB的內(nèi)容而設(shè)計(jì)的相關(guān)練習(xí)，并配合各單元的主題，增加2-3篇快速閱讀短文；第二部分結(jié)合大學(xué)英語四級考試（CET-4）的要求設(shè)計(jì)練習(xí)試題，所有題型和題量均以考試大綱和樣題為依據(jù)。此外，按照期中、期末的學(xué)制安排，《綜合練習(xí)》還包含期中、期末考試練習(xí)卷各一份，最后還附有一份CET-4模擬試卷。　　《教學(xué)參考書》每冊8個單元，每個單元根據(jù)《綜合教程》的相關(guān)內(nèi)容配以教法推薦、背景知識、課文譯文、課文逐段詳解及相應(yīng)例句（全部例句均配中文譯文）、練習(xí)答案。

　　Most importantly， Afghanistan lacks even the most basic resources for mining， such as railroads and electricity. Afghanistan is expected to complete its first railroad this year， linking Mazar-e-Sharif in the north to Asian rail lines. And much of the minerals are located in or around Taliban strongholds， which could encourage fighting to gain control of the deposits， said Sanok， a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington.　　Col. Dave Lapan， a Pentagon spokesman， told reporters Monday that the $1 trillion figure didn't surface until recently because Bfinkley's task force had been pre- occupied with Iraq. Previously， discussions with Kabul have focused on encouraging the export of carpets， agriculture and other modest resources.　　It wasn't until late last year that the task force got around to looking at a 2007 study done by the U.S. Geological Survey. That's when， according to Lapan， the group determined the nearly $1 trillion estimated value.　　The value of Afghanistan's mineral fiches could rise even higher when taking into account Afghanistan's unknown reserve of lithium， a key ingredient in products from medicines to cell phone batteries， potentially resting beneath dried-up lake beds scattered across the country.　　According to the Pentagon， iron would account for almost half of the total value of minerals， or $ 420 billion. Copper would come in second， with about $ 273 billion. But many of the sites listed on a map as potential metal or mineral sites are also known for Taliban activity. For example， a cluster of those sites are just north of the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar and along the road leading to Kabul.　　……
