　　《英文短篇小說(shuō)閱讀》將從四個(gè)方面入手：介紹要素，如視角、人物、環(huán)境；縱覽歷史，如美國(guó)短篇小說(shuō)；著手性別，如女性短篇小說(shuō)家及作品；聚焦題材，如戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)、科幻短篇小說(shuō)?！队⑽亩唐≌f(shuō)閱讀》依主題分八個(gè)單元：期望與挫敗，順從與反抗，生命與死亡，單純與經(jīng)驗(yàn)，疏遠(yuǎn)與交流，偏見與超越，愛情與痛苦，虛構(gòu)與真實(shí)。每個(gè)單元的小說(shuō)從不同的視角審視同一主題。如從女性之于男性，孩子之于成人，個(gè)人之于政府的關(guān)系考察“順從與反抗”；從女孩和男孩成長(zhǎng)的不同視角探索“單純與經(jīng)驗(yàn)”。人生經(jīng)驗(yàn)的微妙復(fù)雜使得主題的變奏在不同作品中得以實(shí)現(xiàn)。有的作品反映人生的孤獨(dú)和異化；有的作品則努力嘗試愛的交流；有的作品反映偏見；有的作品超越偏見。
