前言

  大學英語教學的目的是培養(yǎng)學生具有較強的閱讀能力和一定的聽說讀寫譯能力,使他們能用英語交流信息。大學英語教學應(yīng)幫助學生打下扎實的語言基礎(chǔ),掌握良好的語言學習方法,提高文化素養(yǎng),即具有較強的英語綜合應(yīng)用能力,以適應(yīng)社會發(fā)展和經(jīng)濟發(fā)展的需要。教育部頒發(fā)的英語教學大綱中,閱讀的基本要求(四級)是:能順利閱讀語言難度中等的一般性題材的文章,掌握中心大意以及說明中心大意的事實和細節(jié),并能進行一定的分析、推理和判斷,領(lǐng)會作者的觀點和態(tài)度,閱讀速度達到每分鐘70詞。在閱讀篇幅較長、難度略低、生詞不超過總詞數(shù)3%的材料時,能掌握中心大意,抓住主要事實和有關(guān)細節(jié),閱讀速度達到每分鐘100 詞。  閱讀理解始終都是各類測試的最重要內(nèi)容,所占分數(shù)比重大。閱讀理解既是英語學習和英語測試的重要手段,又是英語學習的終極目的之一。英語閱讀是一種創(chuàng)造性的思維勞動,它不僅涉及語音、語法、詞語這些最基本的語言要素,而且還包括許多非語言因素,如文化知識背景、思維習慣等?! ‖F(xiàn)有的大學英語教材雖然種類繁多,但能真正幫助學生、針對性較強地解決學生閱讀能力的教材卻寥寥無幾。在多年的教學實踐中,我們深深感到,要有的放矢地提高學生的英語閱讀能力,必須有相適應(yīng)的英語閱讀教材。其特點必須是由淺人深、體裁廣泛、文體多樣、趣味性強,既可作教材,在課堂內(nèi)使用,更重要的是,還可由學生在課外自主閱讀。閱讀量課內(nèi)外的比例應(yīng)是1:4左右。而由于課時原因,閱讀不可能全部在課堂內(nèi)進行,還必須在課外加強。這就要求我們必須給學生準備大量的快速閱讀及泛讀材料?! ¤b于以上種種因素,我們在總結(jié)幾十年教學經(jīng)驗的基礎(chǔ)上,并根據(jù)學生的實際情況,殫精竭慮編寫了這套《大學英語快速閱讀新導學》。其目的就是讓學生接觸到大量以英語國家為背景的社會、人文、政治、經(jīng)濟、娛樂等方方面面的文字材料,創(chuàng)造出一個模擬的英文環(huán)境,在老師的幫助下,拓寬學生的視野。我們的編寫原則是強調(diào)材料的數(shù)量及多樣性。

  Maggie started off her junior year of high school with great energy. She had no trouble keeping upwith her schoolwork and was involved in several after-school activities. But after the Thanksgiving break, she began to have difficulty getting through her assigned reading and couldnt concentrate in class. After school all she wanted to dowas sleep. Her grades began to drop, and she rarely felt like socializing. At first, Maggies parents thought she was slacking off. They were upset, but they figured it was just a phase —— especially since her energy finally seemed to return in the spring. But when the same thing happened the following November, they took Maggie to the doctor, who diagnosed her with a type of depression called Seasonal Affective Disorder. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a form of depression that appears at the same time each year. With SAD, a person typically has symptoms of depression and unexplained fatigue as winter approaches and daylight hours become shorter. When spring returns and days become longer again, people with SAD experience relief from their symptoms, returning to their usual mood and energy level.
