章節(jié)摘錄
About 168 million cups of black tea (the type most common in the UK as opposed to green tea) areconsumed in the UK every day. A recent study has found that people consuming at least one a dayreduced their risk of heart attack by almost 50%. The American research programme looked at thedrinking habits of almost 700 people. Although it was not the first study to suggest that tea maybe a health-giving drink, this latest adds real support to earlier claims. Unfortunately for coffeedrinkers, it also discovered that neither regular nor decaffeinated coffee appeared to give anyhealth benefit whatsoever. The study looked at the tea and coffee drinking habits of 680 people aged 76 and under, and includedone group of heart attack victims, and another of healthy volunteers. The men and women who drank oneor more cups of tea a day had a 47% reduction in heart attack risk compared to non-tea drinkers. Previousstudies have produced much the same results. A Dutch investigation of more than 800 men between 65and 84 showed that drinking even more tea - between three and four cups a day decreased risk ofdeath from coronary heart disease by 58%.
