內(nèi)容概要

“開放英語”系列教材是中央廣播電視大學(xué)與英國開放大學(xué)合作，為我國英語學(xué)習(xí)者編寫的一套適合于自學(xué)的多種媒體英語教材。正如其英文書名
This Is
English所示，“開放英語”系列教材提供真實(shí)語境中的真實(shí)英語，通過聽、說、讀、寫技能的綜合訓(xùn)練，提高學(xué)習(xí)者在實(shí)際生活中使用英語進(jìn)行12頭、筆頭交際的能力。
“開放英語”系列教材共分為6冊。每冊教材由主、輔文字教材，錄音、錄像和計(jì)算機(jī)輔助課件等多種媒體構(gòu)成。教學(xué)設(shè)計(jì)參照了大學(xué)英語教學(xué)改革思路、《高職高專英語課程的基本要求》和全國公共英語等級考試(PETS)的要求。文字主教材《開放英語》(1～6)涵蓋大綱規(guī)定的教學(xué)任務(wù)，文字輔助教材《開放英語綜合練習(xí)》(1～6)從詞匯、語法、閱讀、聽力等多方面提供進(jìn)一步操練的內(nèi)容。
《開放英語5》為該系列教材第五冊的文字主教材，供學(xué)習(xí)完《開放英語4》的學(xué)習(xí)者繼續(xù)學(xué)習(xí)使用。本著以學(xué)生為中心的教學(xué)原則，充分考慮成人學(xué)習(xí)的特點(diǎn)，編者對教學(xué)內(nèi)容進(jìn)行了全面的設(shè)計(jì)、精心的選取、合理的編排，力求從低起點(diǎn)開始，通過大量的口頭、筆頭練習(xí)和反復(fù)的實(shí)踐，引導(dǎo)學(xué)習(xí)者一步一個(gè)腳印地邁向?qū)W習(xí)目標(biāo)。

作者簡介

　　Duncan Sidwell，英國開放大學(xué)高級講師，碩士學(xué)位。在英國開放大學(xué)曾參與和主持英語、法語、德語等數(shù)門遠(yuǎn)程語言教學(xué)課程的編制，在外國語教學(xué)方面有豐富經(jīng)驗(yàn)。發(fā)表過Open Leamillg in Languages：A　HandbOOk fOr Tutors fOr the ODenuniversity等語言教學(xué)法領(lǐng)域的論文和著作。加入開放大學(xué)之前，擔(dān)任英國萊斯特郡的地方首席現(xiàn)代語言教學(xué)顧問，并曾被聘為英國全國學(xué)校督學(xué)?！　Ⅶ炝?，中央廣播電視大學(xué)外語系主任，教授?，F(xiàn)任教育部高職高專教育英語課程教學(xué)指導(dǎo)委員會副主任，中國高校英語口語協(xié)會副會長。曾留學(xué)英國，獲媒體輔助語言教學(xué)碩士學(xué)位。自1979年起，一直參與和主持編寫電視大學(xué)英語課程教材，同時(shí)參與主講電大英語電視課程，具有豐富的遠(yuǎn)程英語教學(xué)經(jīng)驗(yàn)。在中央電視臺引進(jìn)的英國廣播公司大型英語教學(xué)系列片“走向未來”中擔(dān)任主講。主講及主持的電視課程曾先后獲新聞出版署和教育部聯(lián)合頒發(fā)的全國優(yōu)秀教育音像制品一、二、三等獎(jiǎng)。1999年被授予“全國電大優(yōu)秀主講教師”的稱號。

　　The Stow Of ThankSg iVi ngIn spring 1620 a ship sailed from England with more than one hundred peopleon boardl．They were a religious group，now known as the Pilgrims，who hadbegun to question the beliefs of the Church of England and because of thisthey had been persecuted．They arrived in America and settled in what is nowthe state of Massachusetts．2 Their first winter in America was difficult．Theyhad arrived too late to grow many crops，and without flesh food，half thePilgrims died from starvation and disease．They only survived because theywere helped by the Native Americans．They were shown how to grow maize，a type of corn that was new to them，and other crops．They were also taughthowtohunt andfish．　　In the autumn of 1621，good crops of corn，barley，beans and pumpkinswere harvested．The Pilgrims wanted to thank their God for their survival，and SO a feast of thanksgiving was planned to which the local chief and 90Native Americans were invited．3 They brought venison to roast with theturkeys and other meat．As well as meat there were cranberries and differentkinds of corn and pumpkin dishes which the Pilgrims had been taught to cookby the Native Americans．To this first Thanksgiving，they even brought thegreat American treat—popcorn！　　......
