前言

　　凱特·道格拉斯·維珍（Kate Douglas Wiggin，1856-1923），美國著名作家、教育家?！　?856年，凱特·道格拉斯·維珍出生在美國費(fèi)城，父親在她很小的時(shí)候就去世了，之后母親攜家人移居到緬因州?！　?878年，維珍在美國舊金山開辦了第一家免費(fèi)幼兒園——“銀街幼兒園”，后來還和妹妹一起創(chuàng)辦了幼兒師范學(xué)校。在和一位才華橫溢的年輕律師結(jié)婚后，維珍不再繼續(xù)教學(xué)，但仍然堅(jiān)持每周舉辦講座，開辦教育培訓(xùn)課程，并造訪了許多家幼兒園?！　榱颂鎸W(xué)校籌集資金，維珍開始勤奮寫作，她早期的小說《帕特茜的故事》和《鳥兒的圣誕頌歌》等都獲得了巨大成功。1888年，維珍和丈夫移居紐約，之后她出版了小說《提摩西的追求》和《波利奧利佛的問題》，其中小說《波利奧利佛的問題》得到了英國著名作家吉卜林的高度贊美，稱其主人公是英文小說中最讓人快樂的女主人公。1889年，丈夫突然去世，之后維珍幾乎將全部精力都投入到幼兒教育事業(yè)，但業(yè)余時(shí)間她仍堅(jiān)持寫作。除此之外，她還致力于兒童慈善閱讀事業(yè)。1895年，她與出版商瑞奇再婚，在丈夫堅(jiān)定的支持下，她出版了多部成功的作品，其中包括經(jīng)典之作《陽光溪農(nóng)場的麗貝卡》?！　【S珍一生出版了大量的文學(xué)作品，代表作有《太陽溪農(nóng)場的麗貝卡》(Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm，　1910)、《樸素的故事》（Homespun Tales，1920）、《佩內(nèi)洛普的成長史》(Penelope，s Progress，1898)等，而使她名揚(yáng)世界的是《太陽溪農(nóng)場的麗貝卡》，該書被認(rèn)為是“美國孩子的勵志經(jīng)典”，美國大文豪馬克·吐溫認(rèn)為這本書“美麗，溫暖，沁人心脾”。

內(nèi)容概要

　　《太陽溪農(nóng)場的麗貝卡》是20世紀(jì)最偉大的童話著作之一，是一部關(guān)于“快樂、陽光”的童話。主人公麗貝卡生活在個(gè)偏僻小農(nóng)場里的·個(gè)超級大家庭——媽媽和7個(gè)兄弟姐妹。雖然生活清苦且有數(shù)不清的繁重勞作，但一家人依然相親相愛、其樂融融。十歲那年，麗貝卡受到邀請，離開農(nóng)場，來到陌生的姨媽家寄住并接受教育。麗貝卡憧憬著未來，但姨媽家刻板的規(guī)矩束縛得她幾乎喘不過氣來。可她從未因此抱怨哭泣，麗貝卡仍然像陽光般熱情、坦誠和率真，她熱心助人、努力學(xué)習(xí)，不僅交到了好幾個(gè)知心朋友，還贏得了大家的喜愛，更深深打動了兩位姨媽的心。

You've got a lively little girl there. I guess she'll be a first-rate company keeper." Miss Sawyer shuddered openly at the adjective "lively" as applied to a child; her belief being that though children might be seen, if absolutely necessary, they certainly should never be heard if she could help it. "We're not much used to noise, Jane and me," she remarked acidly. Mr. Cobb saw that he had taken the wrong tack, but he was too unused to argument to explain himself readily, so he drove away, trying to think by what safer word than "lively" he might have described his interesting little passenger. "I'll take you up and show you your room, Rebecca," Miss Miranda said. "Shut the mosquito nettin' door tight behind you, so's to keep the flies out; it ain't flytime yet, but I want you to start right; take your passel along with ye and then you won't have to come down for it; always make your head save your heels.
