雅各布·格林（Grimm J.，1785-1863）、威廉·格林(Grimm W.，1786-1859)，文學(xué)史上稱為“格林兄弟”，兄弟兩人是德國(guó)語(yǔ)言學(xué)家、民俗學(xué)家、民間文學(xué)研究者，同時(shí)還是名揚(yáng)世界的童話大師。格林兄弟的經(jīng)歷類似，早年學(xué)習(xí)法律，后來共同研究德國(guó)文化史和語(yǔ)言學(xué)，是日耳曼語(yǔ)言學(xué)的奠基人。他們共同搜集、整理、研究德國(guó)民間故事、傳說和童話，出版多部童話故事和傳說等著作，而《格林童話》是其中的典型代表?！陡窳滞挕吩麨椤陡窳中值芩占慕o孩子與家庭的故事》，這些童話故事伴隨著一代又一代人的美麗童年、少年直至成年，其中《小紅帽》、《白雪公主》、《灰姑娘》、《青蛙王子》、《大拇指》、《睡美人》、《聰明的小裁縫》等已成為世界童話寶庫(kù)中的經(jīng)典?！陡窳滞挕穯柺?00多年來，至今已被譯成世界上140多種文字，而其中的中文譯本更是不計(jì)其數(shù)。國(guó)內(nèi)引進(jìn)的《格林童話》讀本主要集中在兩個(gè)方面：一種是中文翻譯版，另一種中英文對(duì)照版。而其中的中英文對(duì)照讀本比較受青少年讀者的歡迎，這主要是得益于中國(guó)人熱衷于學(xué)習(xí)英文的大環(huán)境。而從英文學(xué)習(xí)的角度上來看，直接使用純英文的學(xué)習(xí)資料更有利于英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)?？紤]到對(duì)英文內(nèi)容背景的了解有助于英文閱讀，使用中文導(dǎo)讀應(yīng)該是一種比較好的方式，也可以說是該類型書的第三種版本形式，這也是我們編寫本書的主要原因。采用中文導(dǎo)讀而非中英文對(duì)照的方式進(jìn)行編排，這樣有利于國(guó)內(nèi)讀者擺脫對(duì)英文閱讀依賴中文注釋的習(xí)慣。在中文導(dǎo)讀中，我們盡力使其貼近原作的精髓，也盡可能保留原作簡(jiǎn)潔、精練、明快的風(fēng)格，豐滿、艷麗的形象。我們希望能夠編出為當(dāng)代中國(guó)青少年讀者所喜愛的經(jīng)典讀本。讀者在閱讀英文故事之前，可以先閱讀中文導(dǎo)讀內(nèi)容，這樣有利于了解故事背景，從而加快閱讀速度。本書主要內(nèi)容由紀(jì)飛、劉乃亞編譯。參加本書故事素材搜集整理及編譯工作的還有鄭佳、王勛、趙雪、左新杲、黃福成、馮潔、徐鑫、馬啟龍、王業(yè)偉、王旭敏、陳楠、王多多、邵舒麗、周麗萍、王曉旭、李永振、孟憲行、熊紅華、胡國(guó)平、熊建國(guó)、徐平國(guó)、王小紅等。限于我們的文學(xué)素養(yǎng)和英語(yǔ)水平，書中一定會(huì)有一些不當(dāng)之處，我們衷心希望讀者朋友批評(píng)指正。

　　72．狼和人　　The Wolf and the Man　　有一次，狐貍對(duì)狼講到人的厲害，說動(dòng)物必須施詭計(jì)，才能在人面前保住性命。狼不相信，說如果遇到人就要襲擊他。　　第二天，狐貍把狼帶到獵人每天經(jīng)過的路上。先來了一個(gè)退役老兵，狐貍告訴狼他曾經(jīng)是一個(gè)人。又來了一個(gè)小男孩，狐貍又說他即將成為一個(gè)人。最后，獵人來了，狐貍告訴狼這就是人，然后就回洞了?！　±窍蚰侨藫淙ィ侨擞闽睆棾悄樕洗蛄艘粯?，狼扭歪了臉，卻沒被嚇住。獵人又給了它一槍，并抽出那把锃亮的長(zhǎng)獵刀，朝它左右各砍了一刀結(jié)果，他渾身是血，哀嚎著逃回到狐貍那兒?！　nce upon a time the fox was talking to the wolf of the strength of man; how no animal could withstand him, and how all were obliged to employ cunning in order to protect themselves from him. Then the wolf answered: "If I had but the chance of seeing a man for once, I would set on him not withstanding." "I can help you to do that," said the fox. "Come to me early tomorrow morning and I will show you one."The wolf presented himself betimes, and the fox took him out on the road by which the huntsmen went daily.　　First came an old discharged soldier. "Is that a man?" inquired the wolf. "No," answered the fox, "that was one." Afterwards came a little boy who was going to school. "Is that a man?　No, that will be one." At length came a hunter with his double barrelled gun at his back, and hanger by his side. Said the fox to the wolf: "Look, there comes a man, you must attack him, but I will take myself off to my hole." The wolf then rushed on the man. When the huntsman saw him he said:"It is a pity that I have not loaded with a bullet," aimed, and fired his small shot in his face. The wolf pulled a very wry grimace, but did not let himself be frightened, and attacked him again, on which the huntsman gave him the second barrel. The wolf swallowed his pain and rushed on the huntsman,but he drew out his bright hanger,and gave him a few cuts with it right and left, so that, bleeding everywhere, he ran howling back to the fox. "Well, brother wolf," said the fox, "how have you got on with man?　Ah!" replied the wolf, "I never imagined the strength of man to be what it is! First, he took a stick from his shoulder, and blew into it, and then something flew into my face which tickled me terribly; then he breathed once more into the　stick, and it flew into my nose like lightning and hail; when I was quite close, he drew a white rib out of his body, and he beat me so with it that I was all but left lying dead.""See what a braggart you are !" said the fox. "You throw your hatchet so far that you cannot fetch it back again!"
