內(nèi)容概要

《劍橋英語史》是第一部詳盡地?cái)⑹鲇⒄Z歷史的多卷本著作。其恢弘的氣度和內(nèi)容的權(quán)威性都是空前的。本書以時(shí)間為線索，敘述了早期英語的一千多年的歷史；近300年來的英語，逐漸走向世界，成為一種世界性的語言，因此本書以地域?yàn)榫€索，敘述了現(xiàn)代英語在世界各地的發(fā)展歷史。    本卷（第一卷）敘述的是諾曼征服之前的古代英語（1066年以前），包括印歐語系及日耳曼語族的源流、語音與形態(tài)、句法、語義學(xué)與詞匯、方言、專名學(xué)以及文學(xué)語言等諸方面。在給出語言發(fā)展的詳實(shí)的歷史材料以外，也充分地論述了在這些領(lǐng)域中已取得的學(xué)術(shù)成績，以及運(yùn)用當(dāng)代語言學(xué)理論對這些材料的闡釋。所有的論述都不僅僅只以專業(yè)人士為對象，而是時(shí)時(shí)兼顧一般讀者。對于所有對英語的歷史有興趣的讀者，本書都是一部必備的工具書。
