內(nèi)容概要

　　《英美文學(xué)欣賞》共由22個單元組成。英國文學(xué)和美國文學(xué)各11個單元。英國文學(xué)包括五位散文家和六位小說家的經(jīng)典名著。本書收入了散文家如培根、約翰遜博士、王爾德、羅素、福斯特等的名篇。涉及的小說篇目有《傲慢與偏見》、《簡·愛》、《雙城記》、《人性枷鎖》、《兒子與情人》、《一個青年藝術(shù)家的肖像》等。另外，還有莎士比亞的《羅密歐與朱麗葉》“陽臺相會”節(jié)選和一首十四行詩以及彭斯、華茲華斯、雪萊和丁尼生的著名短詩。　　美國文學(xué)中共選人三位散文家和七位小說家的不朽名篇。主要有富蘭克林的自傳、愛默森和梭羅的散文名篇，馬克·吐溫的小說《哈克貝利·芬歷險記》和《湯姆·索亞歷險記》、詹姆斯的《女士畫像》、歐·亨利的短篇小說《麥琪的禮物》和《警察與贊美詩》以及福克納的著名短篇《獻(xiàn)給愛米麗小姐的玫瑰花》。其他名家的長篇小說節(jié)選有《了不起的蓋茨比》、《麥田里的守望者》和海明威的《老人與海》等。另外還有《生命禮贊》、《未選之路》等既有哲理又優(yōu)美可誦的短詩。

　　作品簡介　　《羅密歐與朱麗葉》是一部感人至深、催人淚下的愛情悲劇?！　≡诿蔷S洛那，有兩家門第相當(dāng)?shù)拿T望族——蒙太古家族（Montague）和凱普萊特家族（Capulet），累世的宿怨使兩家勢不兩立，經(jīng)常刀劍相向，發(fā)生流血沖突。兩個家族中的一對青年羅密歐與朱麗葉卻相愛了，好心的神父為他們舉行了秘密婚禮?？墒牵谝粓鰻幎分?，羅密歐卻失手殺了凱普萊特家族中的人，遭到放逐。朱麗葉的父母執(zhí)意讓她嫁給另一個貴族青年。神父設(shè)妙計讓朱麗葉喝下一種藥液，可以佯死42個小時，待家人將其下葬，再讓羅密歐趕來相見，兩人一同逃走。不幸的是，羅密歐沒有得到這一真實情況。他趕到墓穴，以為朱麗葉真的死去，便服毒自殺。朱麗葉醒來，看見羅密歐的尸體，遂用匕首結(jié)束了自己的生命。兩個在家族世仇下慘遭犧牲的年輕人以悲壯的殉情，終于使兩家化干戈為玉帛。　　正是：“古往今來多少離合悲歡，誰曾見這樣的哀怨辛酸。”　　……
