版權(quán)頁：   插圖：    After several turns he sat down again.As he threw his head back in the chair,his glance happened to rest upon a bell,a disused bell,that hung in the room,and communicated,for some purpose now forgotten,with a chamber in the highest story of the building.It was with great astonishment,and with a strange,inexplicable dread,that as he looked,he saw this bell begin to swing.It swung so softly in the outset that it scarcely made a sound； but soon it rang out loudly,and so did every bell in the house. This might have lasted half a minute,or a minute,but it seemed an hour.The bells ceased,as they had begun,together.They were succeeded by a clanking noise,deep down below,as if some person were dragging a heavy chain over the casks in the wine merchant's cellar.Scrooge then remembered to have heard that ghosts in haunted houses were described as dragging chains. The cellar door flew open with a booming sound,and then he heard the noise much louder on the floors below;then coming up the stairs； then coming straight towards his door. "It's humbug still!" said Scrooge."I won't believe it." His colour changed,though,when,without a pause,it came on through the heavy door,and passed into the room before his eyes.Upon its coming in,the dying flame leaped up,as though it cried,"I know him!Marley's Ghost!" and fell again. 私刻擼擠走了幾個(gè)來回以后，才又坐下來。他把頭往后仰靠在椅背上，這時(shí)候，他的視線忽然接觸到一只鈴鐺，一只已經(jīng)不用的鈴鐺。過去這只鈴鐺掛在屋子里，是為了現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)忘掉的什么目的和這屋子最高一層樓上的一個(gè)房間取得聯(lián)系。他感到大吃一驚，感到一種奇怪的、不可名狀的恐怖。他瞧著那只鈴鐺的時(shí)候，鈴鐺晃蕩起來。開頭還是蕩得很輕微，簡直沒有一點(diǎn)聲音，可是不久就響亮地敲起來，使得整幢屋子里所有的鈴鐺都這樣敲起來。鈴聲可能響了半分鐘，也可能一分鐘，然而恰似一小時(shí)之久。鈴鐺又像剛才響起來那樣，一同靜了下來。接著，從深深的底下傳來“當(dāng)啷當(dāng)啷”的噪聲，好像有誰在酒商的地窖里把一根沉重的鏈條在那些酒桶上拖過去。私刻擼擠于是想起聽人說過鬼屋里的鬼怪是拖著鏈條的。 地窖的門被“砰”的一聲撞開來了，于是他聽見樓底下的聲音更響了；爬上樓梯來了，徑直朝他的房門這里來了。 “依然是胡鬧！”私刻擼擠說，“我才不相信呢?！?可是他的臉色卻變了，這時(shí)候，毫不停留，那東西一直穿過厚重的房門，走進(jìn)屋子里來，到了他眼睛前面。它一走進(jìn)屋子，那奄奄一息的火苗就躥了上來，好像在喊著說：“我認(rèn)識(shí)他！馬萊的鬼魂??！”接著就萎了下去。
