前言

《大中華文庫》終于出版了。我們?yōu)橹吲d，為之鼓舞，但也倍感壓力。當(dāng)此之際，我們愿將郁積在我們心底的話，向讀者傾訴。中華民族有著悠久的歷史和燦爛的文化，系統(tǒng)、準(zhǔn)確地將中華民族的文化經(jīng)典翻譯成外文，編輯出版，介紹給全世界，是幾代中國人的愿望。早在幾十年前，西方一位學(xué)者翻譯《紅樓夢》，將書名譯成《一個紅樓上的夢》，將林黛玉譯為“黑色的玉”。我們一方面對外國學(xué)者將中國的名著介紹到世界上去表示由衷的感謝，一方面為祖國的名著還不被完全認(rèn)識，甚至受到曲解，而感到深深的遺憾。還有西方學(xué)者翻譯《金瓶梅》，專門摘選其中自然主義描述最為突出的篇章加以譯介。一時間，西方學(xué)者好像發(fā)現(xiàn)了奇跡，掀起了《金瓶梅》熱，說中國是“性開放的源頭”，公開地在報刊上鼓吹中國要“發(fā)揚開放之傳統(tǒng)”。還有許多資深、友善的漢學(xué)家譯介中國古代的哲學(xué)著作，在把中華民族文化介紹給全世界的工作方面作出了重大貢獻(xiàn)，但或囿于理解有誤，或緣于對中國文字認(rèn)識的局限，質(zhì)量上乘的并不多，常常是隔靴搔癢，說不到點子上。

　　《大中華文庫：夷堅志選（漢英對照）》是宋代著名志怪小說集，為洪邁晚年所撰，記載了傳聞的怪異之事，是宋代志怪小說中篇幅最大的一部。原書420卷，搜羅豐富，舉凡神仙鬼怪、冤獄報應(yīng)、幻象異聞，甚至習(xí)俗風(fēng)尚等等，無不收錄?！洞笾腥A文庫：夷堅志選（漢英對照）》在文學(xué)史上有重要價值，宋元以來，有不少話本和戲曲都取材于其中的故事；它也為研究宋代社會生活保存了不少可貴資料?！　∪欢?，原書以多為勝，不加抉擇，因此難免蕪雜。本書由美國波士頓西蒙茲大學(xué)阿歷斯特·英格爾斯教授選譯了其中的代表性篇目，共113篇。這些篇目故事性強(qiáng)，讀來饒有趣味；讀者也可以藉此進(jìn)一步了解北宋末、南宋初的社會狀況。

When Xi Daguang held power in Sichuan his mother，Lady Zhu，passed away．He was about to bury her at Blue Wall Mountain，butafter the decision had been made，he dreamed of two people whocame visiting．Their steps were heavy and lumbering and their entirebodies were riddled with frightful sores．  “The final resting place of your good mother should be in WenPrefecture．”they told him．‘'The nanle ofthe land is‘Supreme Profun-dity of the Xu Family’and the plot is called‘Facing North to Mt．Geng’．YourLordshipmustgoand requestit．When the whole matter has been concluded，we would have you heal Our wounds．”Master Xi had once lived in Yongjia and had been wanting toreturn．Yethe had not come to any decision because of the great distance．Upon waking,he considered it all strange indeed and recorded it in hisnotebook．He then prepared a boat in which to go east．He also tookt11e cofin of his father to Wen Prefecture，who had once been a vicecensor-in-chief．The day of the funeral was pressing，yet in no way had they fixedthe location of the plot．Xi had called upon Zhang Zao of Xiaoshan toascertain the site when they all stopped ata mountain temple．Hisnephew,Qilang，had gone to buy food at a farmhouse．The owner asked him where he was going and SO he told him．
