《亨利六世》是莎士比亞早期創(chuàng)作的英國歷史劇，其上篇內(nèi)容概括1422年到1444年亨利六世嬰幼少年時期王親國戚間的傾軋爭斗，以及英國維護它在法國權(quán)益時的著著失利。其間英軍將領(lǐng)塔爾博特的英勇戰(zhàn)斗和犧牲的描寫頗受英國觀眾的歡迎，因?qū)懽骱蜕涎輹r正值英國海軍戰(zhàn)勝西班牙無敵艦隊，解除被入侵威脅之際，民間愛國主義熱情高漲。
