內(nèi)容概要

　　本書是美國麥格勞一希爾（McGraw—Hill）出版公司出版的Computing Essentials
2008，Introductory
Edition一書的影印版。原書自1989年以來每年都出一次新版，主要用作英語國家的計算機導(dǎo)論性教材。我社曾經(jīng)影印過本書的1995--1996版、l998--1999版和2002—2003版．主要用作高等學(xué)校計算機專業(yè)英語教材，采用的學(xué)校普遍反映較好。本書是今年出版的新版，在內(nèi)容上做了全面更新，突出了知識的先進性、系統(tǒng)性和教學(xué)的實踐性，并提供了更為豐富的習(xí)題和在線學(xué)習(xí)功能。
　　本書概括地介紹了計算機與信息技術(shù)的常見概念和術(shù)語、主要應(yīng)用領(lǐng)域及其對社會的影響。全書由11章和附錄組成，主要內(nèi)容包括：信息技術(shù)概述；因特網(wǎng)、萬維網(wǎng)與電子商務(wù)；應(yīng)用軟件；系統(tǒng)軟件；硬件系統(tǒng)；輸入／輸出設(shè)備；存儲設(shè)備；通信與網(wǎng)絡(luò)；隱私與安全；信息技術(shù)展望等。書中含有大量豐富的圖片，用于說明計算機及各種技術(shù)、設(shè)備的結(jié)構(gòu)、原理和組成，使各種技術(shù)、概念和術(shù)語一目了然。每章之后附有未來展望、綜合性的圖示小結(jié)、關(guān)鍵詞和術(shù)語列表、習(xí)題、技術(shù)應(yīng)用、知識擴展、自制文檔等豐富的實踐內(nèi)容。

版權(quán)頁：插圖：COMMON FEATURESA user interface is the portion of the application that you work with. Most applications use a graphical user interface (GUI) that displays graphical elements called icons to represent familiar objects and a mouse. The mouse controls a pointer on the screen that is used to select items such as icons. Another feature is the use of windows to display information. A window is simply a rectangular area that can contain a document, program, or message. (Do not confuse the term window with the various versions of Microsoft's Windows operating systems, which are programs.) More than one window can be opened and displayed on the computer screen at one time.Most software programs including Microsoft Office 2003, have menus, dialog boxes, toolbars, and buttons. (See Figure 3-l.) Menus present commands that are typically displayed in a menu bar at the top of the screen. When one of the menu items is selected, an additional list of menu options or a dialog bx that provides additional information and requests user input may appear.
