Glad to see you again here! When did you come back from Australia?Annie: Oh,glad to see you, too. I came back just last week.Walter: Well, did you go to see the world-famous Ayers Rock during your stay there?Annie: Sure I did. It is the icon of Australia you know, the world's second largest free standing monolith.Walter: It seems that you are so impressed by the scene. Say something more about it,please!Annie: OK! Ayers Rock rises solitarily 348 meters (1,141 feet)above the desert plain and is over 9 kilometers (5 miles)in circumference. It's also known for its sacredness and changing colors.Walter: Yes,I was once told that the rock is sacred to the local Anunga Aborigines.Annie: That's true. The Anungas discourage, but don't prohibit visitors from climbing their sacred mountain.Walter: Do visitors follow their advice, then?Annie: Oh,some do. Roughly 1 out of 10 visitors climb the rock, using an ancient Aborigine trail which is closed when it is windy, rainy or excessively hot. A few slip and lose their lives each year. Once on top, the view is magnificent! Tom: Rosa! Look here! ""… Ayers Rock is like an iceberg because only its tip is visible-the rest extends deep into the ground. … The rock's surface conspicuously changes colors as the day passes and according to weather conditions, your distance from it and your viewing angle….""Rosa: Why Tom,do you want to go to visit Australia?Tom: Yes,this summer, and Ayers Rock is the first place I want to visit there.Rosa: Why don't you ask me for help, then? I was there last year.Tom: Is that true? Well, what do you think of the rock?Rosa: It's great,of course. The monolith is sandstone, the product of layers of sand laid down in an ancient sea bed about 500 million years ago. And hues include reds, oranges, yellows, and grays.Tom: Oh,how exciting! I wish I were there right now!Rosa: Do remember: Ayers Rock is at its visual best at sunrise and sunset.Tom: What is the best way to get there then?Rosa: Well,I suggest you first get to the Ayers Rock Resort so that you can see the sunrise the second morning more conveniently.Tom: OK,I'll remember that.
