前言
Volume 11 of the Flora of China is the 15th of a 25-volume work. It includes 35 families,212 genera, and 1444 species, among which six genera and 615 species (42.6%) are endemic toChina, and one family, 17 genera, and 49 species (3.4%) are introduced to China. Volume 11 is formatted in the same manner as the first 14 volumes of the series: vol. 17(1994), vol. 16 (1995), vol. 15 (1996), vol. 18 (1998), vol. 4 (1999), vol. 24 (2000), vol. 8 (2001),vol. 6 (2001), vol. 9 (2003), vol. 5 (2003), vol. 14 (2005), vol. 22 (2006), vol. 13 (2007), and vol.12 (2007). The following 12 accompanying volumes of the Flora of China Illustrations havebeen published to date: vol. 17 (1998), vol. 16 (1999), vol. 15 (2000), vol. 18 (2000), vol. 4(2001), vol. 24 (2002), vol. 8 (2003), vol. 6 (2003), vol. 9 (2004), vol. 5 (2004), vol. 14 (2006),and vol. 22 (2007). Bruce Bartholomew co-authored and edited the Dipentodontaceae, Erythroxylaceae, andMunronia in the Meliaceae and edited the Geraniaceae, Linaceae, Meliaceae, Nitrariaceae, Oxal-idaceae, Peganaceae, Rutaceae, Tropaeolaceae, and Zygophyllaceae. Anthony R. Brach co-auth-ored and edited the Coriariaceae and edited the Aceraceae, Aquifoliaceae, Cardiopteridaceae,Icacinaceae, Plagiopteraceae, and Polygalaceae. A. Michele Funston co-authored and edited theCelastraceae and Malpighiaceae and edited the Daphniphyllaceae. Michael G. Gilbert co-auth-ored and edited the Euphorbiaceae, Pandaceae, and Salvadoraceae. Nicholas J. Turland edited theAnacardiaceae, Biebersteiniaceae, Burseraceae, Buxaceae, Callitrichaceae, Cneoraceae, Dicha-petalaceae.

Shrubs or trees, evergreen, 2-10 m tall. Young branchletsslender, longitudinally angular and sulcate, puberulent; olderbranchlets with raised, crescent-shaped leaf scars, lenticels ab-sent; terminal buds conical, puberulent. Stipules persistent, del-toid, apically acute; petiole 2-5 mm, puberulent, sulcate or flatadaxially; leaf blade abaxially greenish, adaxially green, slightlyshiny, obovate or obovate-oblong, 2.5-3.5~1-2 cm, thicklyleathery, both surfaces glabrous except on midvein adaxially,midvein flat or slightly impressed adaxially, lateral veins 7 or 8pairs and reticulate veins obscure on both surfaces, base obtuseor cuneate, margin entire, apex shortly acuminate, obtuse, orrounded, sometimes retuse. Inflorescences: cymes, solitary orfasciculate, axillary on second years branchlets, puberulent,bracts deltoid, puberulent. Male inflorescences: cymes of order2, 2- or 3-flowered, fasciculate; peduncles 1-2 mm; pedicels1-1.5 mm; bracteoles 1 or 2, basal; flowers white, 4-merous;calyx patelliform, ca. 2 mm in diam., pubescent, shallowly4-lobed, lobes orbicular, ciliate; corolla ca. 3 mm in diam., petalsovate, basally slightly connate; stamens shorter than petals;rudimentary ovary conical, center depressed. Female inflores-cences: 1-flowered cymes, solitary; pedicels ca. 1.5 mm, pu-berulent; bracteoles 2, basal, lanceolate; calyx and corolla as inmale flowers; staminodes ca. 3/4 as long as petals, sterile antherscordate; ovary subglobose-ovoid, ca. 1.3 mm in diam., stigmabroadly discoid. Fruit red, globose, ca. 5 mm in diam.; fruitingpedicel ca. 2.5 mm, puberulent; persistent calyx explanate,quadrangular, 4-lobed, lobes deltoid, ciliate; persistent stigmathinly discoid, shallowly 4- or 5-lobed; pyrenes 4, broadly ellip-soidal or ovoid-ellipsoidal, ca. 4 ram, ca. 3 mm in diam., abaxi-ally longitudinally raised and furcate-striate, laterally smooth,endocarp leathery.
